There are thousands, if not millions, of Internet sites devoted to the terrible atrocities of the Nazis of World War II. I am not a big devotee of history, although I think it's imperitive to learn from it. However, I have not seen a whole lot of sites devoted to the smallest victims of those years - the children. Oh, I'm sure that there are some sites out there. In fact, the two sites that I think are an absolute must to visit are the sites I want to send you to from here.
These two sites are very special, but be warned that they are not easy sites to visit. The Children of the Holocaust site is a particularly difficult one, especially if you take the time to really get to know these poor, mostly lost, souls. Grace Products is a company that specializes in the production and distribution of educational videos. One of those videos came to my attention for my job. It is called "Forget Me Not, the Anne Frank Story." Since most people are at least vaguely familiar with Anne Frank, of this video I will say only that it was VERY different... and definitely worth seeing (I found it to be very thought-provoking and I thought it would be an excellent tool to use in a junior high or high school setting). What really impressed me, however, is a set of 51 "playing cards" that comes with the video. They are called The Forget Me Not Cards. Each card has a child's name on it. Then you are directed to the Internet site listed below. There is a link for each one of those 51 names. Each of those links will break your heart. But you will walk away with perhaps a somewhat different point of view about those terrible days. Please. Go take a look. Read. Feel. Learn. Remember. These children of the Holocaust can be found at Forget Me Not. The other site I think is worth one's time and attention is the Museum For Tolerance. This site will teach you more about history in one visit than you probably learned thoughout your school days. Go. Become a scholar. Read. Feel. Learn. Remember. |
