The Editor's Statement
A Cynic's Goal in this
Harsh Cyberspace
Revised 10.19.03
The
device that you have your fingers hovering above right now is more than a
mere tool. It is the political power that the common people have
been thirsting for since the dawn of domesticated history. Now an
opinion can be formulated and published for the entire world to see and
hear.
Modern
journalism as we know it has become a sham, a joke and worthy of some Guy
Fawkes treatment. At one time, journalism was considered the fourth
branch of government because it was the liaison between the people and
their leaders. Many journalists actually took their jobs seriously
and actually criticized the government when they tried to subvert human
rights.
But
something changed. Now that multi-national corporate interests own
the vast majority of what we read, see and hear, the onus is on you and me
to make our leaders accountable for their sins.
The
modern media machine has strangled the free flow of ideas for far too
long. It is time to take it back by any means necessary because this
is World War III, this is a guerrilla information war and there is no
division between civilian and military participation.
In this age
where we have so much freedom and yet we choose to trade it for the
comfort of Calvin Klein and SUVs, there is a great discontent brewing
underneath the glossy surface. Seattle, Prague and most recently
Quebec City have shown us that people are no longer willing to be silent
or peaceful; they are pissed off that their birthright of free speech has
been sold off to make way for a world where self-worth is determined by
whose name is written on your underwear.
It is in this
spirit that I give these writings to you. Relax, they are not all
political in nature... there is still room for humour and entertainment...
but they are honest, passionate and biased only by my own opinion. I
promise you that not one penny of revenue on this site will be generated
by advertising. I have no agenda higher than my own conviction that
what I write is truly what I believe.
