Here is a view of my guide, Marcelo Marques Ferreira Lima entering an abandoned shaft. The mine is nearly 300 years old. Notice the shale formation over his head? Itīs about to collapse. Through water erosion and other natural forces, many areas of the mine are in danger of caving in. I was in this shaft crawling on my stomach. I could feel the sides of the tunnel touching my shoulders and the ceiling on my back. If you have any claustrophobia, this tunnel is not for you!
