Subterranean Lake
After the quartz room, we climbed down 500 feet through a maze of tunnels and shafts which appeared to have been undisturbed for many decades. We were constantly stooped over with our heads almost to our knees or crawling on our stomachs through the next tunnel. We found a small, deep, subterranean lake. The water was startlingly pure and crystal clear. We drank from this lake. It was very refreshing and delicious. There was absolute blackness except for our flashlight. At times we would turn it off to deprive ourselves of visual perception. The weight above us was immense. There was no sound inside of the mine. Sometimes we could hear a drop of water or two.
