What is a Body Mass Index ?
The Body Mass Index is a measure of a person's weight against their height and can be
used to determine whether or not they are overweight or underweight by comparing the
resultant Body Mass Index against a set of reference values.

This Body Mass Index Calculator will calculate the Body Mass Index for an individual
when they supply their height and weight details and will report their Body Mass Index,
what their ideal weight should be to achieve an ideal Body Mass Index ( 20 to
25 ) and what weight needs to be lost or gained to achieve that suggested weight.

To use the Body Mass Index Calculator; simply enter your height and weight into the
calculator below then click on the Calculate BMI button. Information about your
Body Mass Index will appear in the Results field at the bottom of the calculator
along with information on how to attain your ideal Body Mass Index if appropriate.
Heights and weights can be entered in either imperial or metric units. All imperial
units will be converted to their metric equivalents ( but not vice versa ).
You may specify your height in feet and inches or simply in inches and you can enter
your weight in stones and pounds or simply in pounds.

There is no check for inches greater or equal to 12 when feet have been specified.
There is no check for pounds greater or equal to 14 when stones have been specified.
