"Defiant Class project" |
In 2373 the U.S.S. Monitor NCC-75001 was commissioned. Due to the success of the
Defiant it was decided to build more defiant class ships. The result of this was the launch of the U.S.S. Valiant and then the Monitor.
|
"USS Monitor" |
In mid 2373 construction of defiant class ships was put on hold and the ships that
were ready were called into the fleet to retake Deep Space 9 from the Dominion. Unfortunately the Monitor was not fully tested when it
was called upon. So during the battle that ensued, the Monitor was critically damaged, with the loss of over half of its crew, including
its captain, John Ford. Its loss was not in vain as DS9 was retaken and the Dominion forces defeated. |
"The Tobias" |
After the battle, it was decided to build a larger version of the defiant class
vessels, hence Phase II began. The U.S.S. Monitor was the first ship to undergo this metamorphosis. The number of decks was increased
to 10, crew compliment grew to 130 and capable of holding up to 200, it was renamed Tobias and given the registry NCC-75487. It was
also fitted with a new improved cloaking device.
|
"The Testing" |
In late 2373 the ship was launched and it began its year long testing. These
tests revealed that the ship could out-maneuver the old defiant ships and its firepower was doubled. This ship is not only a
battleship, but it was also build for exploration and thus provision was made for civilian passengers to live aboard the ship.

"The First Assignment" |
In early 2374, after its lengthy testing, the Tobias was assigned to the
Bajoran sector to defend against the Dominion and to also explore the Gamma Quadrant on the other side of the wormhole. The
captaincy was awarded to Captain Michael Hunt, a decorated officer, because of his part in the Phase II project and his
training in dealing with the Dominion. |
"A Major Battle" |
Towards the end of 2375, the Breen are in retreat. A defeated and bitter Breen Armada heads for home, but
they do not intent to go quietly. With a number of inhabited Star systems in their part, they plan destruction and chaos. Under orders from Starfleet Command, a
starfleet task-force of 10 vessels is dispatched to put a stop to the Breen. |
Led by Fleet Admiral T'Keris, the fleet consists of the USS San Feancisco (Miranda Class),
USS T'Pau (Miranda Class), USS Vigilance (Excelsior Class Carrier), USS Vega (Defiant Class), USS Vichy (Defiant Class), USS Patroit (Sovereign Class),
USS Destiny (Prometheus Class), USS Repiblic-C (Intrepid Class), USS Red Wind (Steamrunner Class) and the USS Tobias (Defiant Class). The mission is a success and
the Breen are defeat in a fierce battle which sees the destruction of the Vigilance and San Francisco. |
"Starbase McCoy" |
In early 2376, the Tobias arrives at her new posting, Starbase McCoy. After suffering damage during the Breen Offensive,
the ship undergoes major repairs and system upgrades. During this time the crew mingle with the inhabitants of the station. The opening ceremony takes place, with a special guest appearance by
Starfleet's Commanding Officer, Fleet Admiral T'Keris. Also in attendance was the Federation President Jarash Inyo. |
"The Ko'Mar Incident" |
In 2379, the Tobias was on a routine
diplomatic mission in the Gamma Quadrant when she was ambushed. With her defenses quickly disabled by 4 enemy vessels, she
was boarded. As Captain Strife ordered the self destruct, a boarding party took the
main computer offline. Outnumber and outgunned, the crew were overpowered. The aliens, forced them
them into the lifepods and ejected them, taking the Tobias as their prize. |
After drifting for 2 weeks, the life pods signal was
picked up by the Mayweather and the Tobias crew returned home to the Alpha Quadrant. Captured during an unprovoked conflict with a powerful Gamma Quadrant race, the Ko'Mar, the Tobias
was moved to enemy space dock. There intention was to strip her of her technology so that they would have a distinct
advantage when they invaded the Alpha quadrant. |
Starfleet Command could not let this happen. Recalled to active duty, Admiral
Michael Hunt along with Captain Strife, were tasked with leading a team to stop the reverse
engineering of the Tobias. Their orders, under no circumstances was the Tobias to
remain in enemy hands, if retrival was not possible, destruction of the ship and her
technology was approved. They left for the destination about the Vega (defiant class). |
Even though they were successful in retreiving the Tobas,
Admiral Hunt was left with no alternative but to destroy the ship before they could reach
the wormhole and return home. On their tail was a fleet of enemy Ko'Mar battle ships, a
first wave invasion, intent on making a surprise attack. The order was given to sacrifice the Tobias in order
for the Vega to escape to the Alpha Quadrant. The resulting explosion, destroyed the Ko'Mar
fleet, giving the Vega the chance it needed to get home. |
"USS Tobias-A : Prometheus Class" |
In recognition of the sacrifice made by the Tobias
in halting the Ko'Mar invasion, a new vessel was commissioned. The
new Tobias would be a Prometheus Class vessel and would once again be assigned to
