What it's about: A dour guy and a deadpan gal shine flashlights in dark basements to seek out the truth about alien conspiracies...Top site: "For the Detail-Obsessed X-Phile."
The buzz: Lists episode details such as locations and rental car license plate numbers, character dossiers, statistics (how many times has Mulder saved Scully?), character nicknames. Photos of Mulder and Scully's apartments, badges and drivers licenses. Very cool graphics featuring beautiful collages [this refers to this site's old, darker layout. I have since made this page sillier and lighter]. A little creepy--it treats the characters as if they were real people. Yeesh. Time squandered: Several lunch hours. Mouse clicks awarded: five [out of five].
[Also included were various quotes from myself in an interview about Fox shutting down sites in a larger article. That article also includes fan sites of other shows, such as Ally McBeal, Xena, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, etc.]
XFU Spotlight Web Page of the Week: January 30, 1999
MaritaSRSG is the webmistress of this exceptional X-Files page. She is the head of our Department of Poetry.
During her downtime, she maintains this great web page. What does this page contain? Quite a lot. The title of her page says it all: Details, details and more details! If that isn't enough for you, you can win one of her awards, or find out what Luke Skywalker and The X-Files have in common at her Star Wars Elements Section.
The heart of the page, and my personal favorite section: is the Episode Details. Wondering what magazine Robert Patrick Modell was laughing at in Pusher? How many pencils does Mulder throw at the ceiling in Chinga? Find out here.
There is a reason why I list this page as a reference for XFU studies. There is so much information and fun activities here, it's a perfect place for anyone who is a fan of this show. This is only the tip of the iceberg for this site, however. You could literally spend hours at this page and still come back wanting more. Bookmark this page and return often.
X-Paper Review [Issue 10, Vol. 13]
by moosnsqril@aol.com
Moose: And once more it's time for reviews from Scully and Mulder's favorite cartoon characters. Well, okay it's a guess, but that's why Squirrel keeps me around. To say the really silly things. And that's why I love her!
Squirrel: No, the real reason I keep him around is that he's cute. Secondly because he's funny.
M: Anyway, our first site this week is called "The X-Files: For The Detailed-Obsessed X-Phile", and you can reach it by going to http://spooky.mulder.com. But, when you do, make sure you have at least two hours you can afford to spend here, because you're going to need it. This is one of the better sites I've seen so far.
S: There is an incredible amount of "stuff" to be seen here!
M: But, trust me also on this my fellow Federal Agents, this is not the kind of thing you want to view if you a tad sensitive to someone calling you a shipper. This is a take no prisoner's kind of site, and it's funny as hell!
Just the page names here alone should make you laugh. Fun With Guns is just too darn funny. I think (and I hope I'm not reading too much into this page) but they are making a very spot on comment about how some sites obsess a bit on the types of photos they post. And if I'm wrong about this, it's still cool to see Mulder managing to hold onto his gun.
S: I think the Tulip Garden dedicated to Clyde Bruckman is very sweet….you can leave your own comments and flowers if you like.
M: I also like the rather innovative idea of posting "free" X-Files links. Lord knows, there aren't enough of them out there, right gang? (Is my tongue showing too much in my cheek?)
S: Speaking of links, you simply must go to the Stats Attack! section and click on the link to The Fine-O-Meter. Not strictly part of the main site, I know, but you gotta give the webmaster credit for just unearthing this link.
M: And it takes a really sick mind to come up with the Bee Squad page. Again, it might tweak some of you the wrong way, but it is funny, funny, funny!
S: I kind of liked the Xnicknames section. I noticed a couple of familiar names listed…
M: Overall we have some great graphics, wonderful photo work, and clever writing. This is inspired, chock full of wonderful things to see and proves that if powers such as these were used for good instead of HTML, we could have solved… well, one or two of the world's problems. And on top of that, there are links to some of the author's other interests. If you are really brave, click on the "Itchy & Scratchy Online" link. HOOOWHOOO!
S: Also, if you want to see how 'detail-obsessed' the webmaster is, look at the What's New section. There are constant updates here - explains why this site's counter is almost at 12,000!
