 "This week's questions"

Question 1: is it common that slaves call each other sister in the books? If so, can you please give examples? It seems overused here.

nairi investigated this question with interest, as she too has been called sister and sis by slaves she has never before known.

First mention of the word sister (in reference to females in general) can be found in Outlaw of Gor, pg. 68:

"Indeed, it was known that some free women actually envied their lightly clad sisters in bondage, free, though wearing a collar, to come and go much as they pleased, to feel the wind on the high bridges, the arms of a master who celebrated their beauty and claimed them as his own."

In skimming through her collection of books, nairi found the use of the word 'sister' infrequent, and was most often used by the narrator/slave in Slave Girl of Gor (Judy Thornton). It seemed she used it in reference to her fellow slaves, not as a means of addressing them. On page 432 of that particular book, one reads:

"Each time we moved one or two positions on the bench we knew that one or two of our sisters had been sold."

The closest a slave gets to calling her slave 'sister' is on page 191 in Slave Girl of Gor:

"`Will you not say farewell to your sister slave?' I asked"

This line of discussion, being of names slaves call each other, leads to a very interesting point. Slaves called each other slave, slut, bina and kajira many times throughout the books, most times using it in a rather derogatory manner.

"'Slut!' hissed one of the chained slaves." -page 259, Kajira of Gor
"'Slut, slut, slut!' hissed one of the slaves." -page 260, Kajira of Gor
"'Brazen slave,' scolded the last girl in line." -page 128, Slave Girl of Gor

Another use of the word 'sister' also comes to mind; that of 'chain sister'. In Kajira of Gor, page 261, it is written:

"I then lay down with my chain sisters."

Basically, this refers to the other slaves when a group of girls are coffled (chained together). They are generally owned by the same Master. So, perhaps in present day terminology it can be said to mean 'two or more slaves who are owned by a common Master'.

Question 2: I heard about slave auctions on irc Gor... can you give me information about that, and doesn't it go against the consent idea that is usually present on Gor?

To answer the last part of the question first, in the books of Gor there is no such thing as a slave consenting to be sold, auctioned or given away. She may beg it, but she has no say in the matter. But the question pertained to irc Gor. That is much different.

There have been slave auctions in some of the channels from time to time. But, how can any buying actually take place? There was once a channel on another irc network that actually required monetary payment, supposedly all for the good cause of some charity the channel owner felt strongly towards. nairi visited long enough to figure out they were exchanging REAL money for REAL services. The way it was worded as each slave took her turn on the auction block was "slave A has agreed to do such and such". Most related to so many hours of cyber sessions with a Master, although some seemed to allude to real life meetings as part of the slave purchase. This slave was given a very uneasy feeling about the legality of such events and never returned.

While researching this question, nairi asked several Masters of irc if they had ever attended a slave auction. Most replied that they found the notion silly or unnecessary and had either left the channel soon after entering or had not gone to one at all. There is no way to actually exchange any cyber money to finalize a sale.

As for the consent issue, it seems that each slave on the block had offered herself to be placed for 'sale'. This slave has heard tell of instances where one Master approaches another, offering to 'sell' a slave, and the Master agrees to make the slave his.

In the books, the selling of a slave could be quite short and uncomplicated, or handled via the more structured auctioning on the slave block. Beginning on page 250 of Slave Girl of Gor, one reads:

"'I am vending a girl,' said Ladletender, indicating me. 'Greetings, Tup Ladletender,' said the voice. The small door in the great gate opened, and we entered. The small door was then shut behind us. 'I will give you four copper tarsks for her,' said the captain. 'Ten,' said Ladletender. 'Six,' said the captain. 'Done,' said Ladletender"

And it was done; a slave had a new Master. For a very lengthy, yet descriptive writing of how a formal slave auction is conducted, Chapter 13 of Slave Girl of Gor offers one for the reading pleasure.

Question 3: First question, who is the sexy Master Excursus? And can you arrange a date for me? (just a joke) Serious question, is there a place on the web where we can see images of Gorean clothing? Like what silks looks like, or camisks, ect... i have a hard time trying to imagine some of them.

~grins and considers a 'win a night of serving Master Excursus' contest, then laughs and shakes her head~ kyna and nairi have been sworn to secrecy over the identity of Master Excursus, and if we actually told, we wouldn't be very pleasing slaves, now would we? ~wiggles her eyebrows~ kyna will tell you that He is indeed sexy, and well tended to by His slave, tangent :)

kyna has looked the web over for a site with pictures of Gorean garments. having found none that would fit that bill, she will post a few addresses that have good descriptions, as well as one that has all the covers of the series of books.

another avenue you might consider is looking at the belly dancing sites. some of the clothing described in the books is similar to those that belly dancers wear.

on an interesting note, kyna has heard it rumored that a certain handsome Master is working on a site that will indeed have pictures of the clothing. check back here for more information concerning that at a later date, or as it becomes available to this slave.

the recommended sites:

Master Marcus' "Beginner Survival Guide to the World of Gor Online" (this site is linked to the Gorean Daily Times and accessible through the contributions section.)

http://members.tripod.com/~Tahari_Oasis/covers.html ( The #Tahari_Oasis website, it includes all the book covers for some ideas of what Gorean's wear, although one must keep in mind that girls cannot be bare chested on book covers.)

http://www.slavesden.org/silks.htm (a good reference with descriptions to different slave accouterments.)

http://www.greatbasin.com/~caravan/hub.html ( a belly dancing mail order catalogue online, it has decent pictures.)

Question 4: this slave would like advice on how to deal with a new chain sister, especially when you have been the only one on your Master's chain for a long time.

this is a difficult question. kyna is of the mind that there is no set 'formula' in which a slave deals with her Master's taking another slave to His collar. in order for some clarity and variety to this topic, kyna will lend her own personal experiences and then leave this as an open ended question in which slaves are encouraged to write in to us with their own ideas and advice. the correspondence we receive will then be posted in a later column as we feel this is a subject of great interest to many slaves.

in kyna's personal experience, she has indeed been very lucky. kyna's chain sister is a girl whom kyna cares for and cared for before she came to her Master's collar.

one of the things that kyna wishes to stress is how important communication between the two of you is. you must realize as slaves that you have no choice but to at least put forth the semblance that you get along, so why not make it happen? kyna and her chain sister speak frequently. if we are jealous, we tell each other. if we are mad, we tell each other. if we are happy, we tell each other. this way, all the squabbling is superseded by communication, and our Master does not punish us for whining in His ear.

kyna does not say it is always easy. kyna gets jealous from time to time, but knowing that she can speak to her sister about it helps tremendously. one thing kyna realized, is that her jealousy is not about her sister, it is about her own insecurities. insecurities that perhaps she will be replaced. having those insecurities is a signal to kyna that she needs to strive harder to be a pleasing slave to her Master. if kyna is pleasing, then she need not worry that her Master will remove her collar, or that she will end up a work slave instead of a pleasure slave.

kyna's advice: be pleasing, communicate with your sister, discuss things before they become a big issue, build a relationship with her, after all...it is your Master's happiness that you both work for. *if you wish to add advice, solutions, or comments on this subject please send mail to slavegirls@hotmail.com*

kyna and nairi wish you all well... safe and happy holidays to you all!

~*~sasha's Christmas Rum Cake~*~
(Diatetic)
Before you start, sample the RUM and check for quality. Good, isn't it! Now, go ahead, select a large mixing bowl, measuring cup, etc., and check that RUM again. It must be just right! Try again. With an electric beater, beat 1 Cup butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add 2 tsp sugar and beat again. Meanwhile, make sure that Rum is the *BEST* quality. Add 2 large eggs and 2 cups of baking powder and a pinch of Rum, 1 tsp of soda and a cup of pepper or maybe a little salt, anyway, don't fret, just test the Rum again! ZOWIE!! Next, sift in half a pint of lemon juice, fold in chopped buttermilk and strained nuts. Sample the Rum again. Add one babblespoon brown sugar or whatever color is around. Mix well. Grease the oven and turn on cake pan at 350 degrees F. Now, pour the whole thing into the cake.
Check the rest of the Rum and go to bed.

"Quotes of the Week!"

"A slave is not a slave only, you see, when she is commanded or taken in the arms of the master. She is a slave wholly, fully, all the time. It is what she is. I think it is this wholeness, this fullness, this beauty, this totality of bondage which you men do not understand. It is hard to speak of. When a girl is a slave all of her is a slave. It is what she is."
-pg.312, Beasts of Gor
The following quote was provided by Master _Marcus_:
"Interestingly there are supposedly almost no free women in Tharna. Further, it is said that the slavery of a woman in Tharna is one of the strictest, most uncompromising and complete of slaveries on Gor.... One might almost think that the slavery of the women in Tharna was not an ordinary slavery but in some cases rather different. It is almost as though it had been imposed upon them as a punishment; it is almost as if they had been sentenced to it."
