The Maximal Gambit,
for which I've named my entire page, is my first major fanfic project.
Way back in December of 1998, I discovered Alt.Toys.Transformers and, while
wandering through the hundreds of posts there, discovered a fanfic entitled
"Apocalypse." This story involved Unicron returning as an itty-bitty
version of himself, rebuilding all the Decepticons as super-warriors, and
destroying Cybertron, scattering the Autobots throughout the universe.
As I read it, I began to get some ideas of my own, and behold the Maximal
Gambit was born. I started writing the story immediately, in
January 1999. . .
. . .and then Christmas
Break ended. I returned to college and didn't get a chance to pick
up the story again until April of 1999. By that time, I'd had many
additional ideas, and when I began writing out my plots and plans, an enormous
and epic story about the end of the Autobot-Decepticon Wars and the start
of the Maximal-Predacon Wars came into form in my mind. I wrote the
13,000-word "Part One: Prosperity" in the span of about two weeks.
When I finally returned
home after graduating in May of '99, I posted the first segments of The
Maximal Gambit on Alt.Toys.Transformers to see what kind of response
I would get. While I didn't get the universal accolades that I was
expecting :-), I did get enough of a response to decide the project was
worth pursuing. Those folks who did respond to the Maximal Gambit
were
so positive about it that I couldn't possibly not write it.
So I began writing "Part Two: Rebirth" in mid-May, hoping to be finished
by the time of BotCon.
I finished it on Thanksgiving.
This was due in large part to my involvement with the Marvel
Universe: Transformed and my creation of the Transformers
Comic Scan Archive. That, and I got a job at my local public
library as a computer resource monitor (fun, these titles--aren't they?
:-) and went back to school for computer programming. Not to mention
that Part Two is absolutely huge--nearly 52,000 words long.
But, from what I've been told, the wait was worth it :-)
So, without further ado,
I give you the Maximal Gambit--or what's written of it :-)
If you have any questions or comments about it, please let me know
at penmanshipp@worldnet.att.net.
It's knowing that fellow TransFans are reading it that keeps me writing
it. If you have questions, though, you may want to check the Maximal
Gambit FAQ, first--you may find the answers right there!
