Chaos Space Marines are one of the most versatile armies available. You have good hand-to-hand troops, in the form of the infamous Khorne Bezerkers. If you want to go for mid-range firepower, little can top the incredible toughness of Plague Marines. At longer ranges, however, Chaos will be outclassed by other sides, especially Space Marines. That said, you do get to use the powerful Chaos spell decks, which can be devestating in their own right. Where Chaos really stands out, though, is with Daemons and Dreadnoughts. I won't talk about Characters in a Chaos army though, as they are really down to personal style and choice. Don't make your characters too expensive though, I will say, as they are magnets for Heavy Weapon fire and you don't want to just give away Victory Points now do you?

The Ultra-Elite: Terminators, including Noise Marine, Berzerker, Plague Marine and Thousand Sons Terminators.

The Elite: Veterans and 'cult' troops.

The Regulars: Chaos Space Marines.

The Heavies: Dreadnoughts, Vehicles and Bikers.

Daemons.
