Movie Reviews

6/30/03

This will have a rating system as such: 5 = excellent, 4 = Very good, 3 = Good, 2 = Not So Good, 1 = Bad, 0 = Holy Crap! what were they thinking?

This page will expand in August with lots of reviews. Sorry if these are short for now but just to give you an idea how this will play.

Bruce Almighty: 2 1/2
Sorry Carrey fans but he's done better with Liar Liar and Me, Myself and Irene. First half hour was funny then it goes downhill from there. Morgan Freeman is great casting and cool as ever but not enough of interaction with Jim. Then it gets really preachy at the end with a Gee, ain't that nice routine. Pleeeaaase! But it does have the funniest scene not by Jim but by the Actor who played the weatherman. (Steve Carrell?) he practically stole the show. But at least Jim is back to form and should be uphill for now on. Just keep him away from Majestic type movies!

Matrix Reloaded: 3
If you skip the first 45 minutes of boring talks, speeches and lots of preachy themes of complete nonsense and enjoy the action then your good to go. The W brothers just try to hard with their philosophy and such that it brings down the film to the point you just don't care. For the second half when Neo gets his freak on with a 100 Agent Smiths and doing his superman shtick is where this thing get started. But even in this half things do get redundant. To much slo-mo for my taste, a highway chase a little too long ending with Neo again doing his superman shtick and two very annoying albino twins who turn to ghosts. But besides these little quirks this will be alot of fun on the DVD with all the supplements on how they did all those cool effects even besides all the wires and green screens. Now if they can get to all the action from beginning to end in Evolutions then we're set for a great trilogy.

X-Men 2: 3 1/2
Much better than the first one but Brian Singer seemed to feel compelled to explain himself again with the mutant registration, love stories, and other topics brought up already in X-Men. Some new mutants added with Nightcrawler and Deathstrike and Pyro brought to the front among other cameos. But to much was relied on Gen. Stryker and his revenge which was just plain boring. But that's okay with a bigger budget, longer running time, better SFX, Wolverine kicking mucho cullo, great mano a mano with Wolverine and Deathstrike! it all adds up to a great time. It's just the last half kinds of bring the whole thing down to a dead stop with that Gen. Stryker thing. Kill him already. Jeeez! And at least you really care about the characters in this one more than I can say about Matrix. Losing Jean Grey for her to become Phoenix is going to lead to a great part 3 and if we can have the Sentinels in it too.....I know maybe I'm asking for too much...Hell why not!
