The Quest

My Lance

Toward the end of this episode, a battle ensues between Blackstar and the Emerald Knight on the Ice Castle bridge. The battle ends when the Knight falls into a gap in the bridge and is pinned down long enough to be unmasked. It's a rather brief affair that was originally about a minute longer. Offhand, the Dragon doesn't recall if the cut scene appeared in the original 1981 broadcast and was cut as was an earlier scene. If you recall seeing this scene, drop me a line.

All voice direction for the Emerald Knight indicates the filtering that is this character's trademark. Obviously the viewer isn't supposed to be able to guess at the Knight's identity or even gender. Astute listeners, however, will probably pick up the feminine quality to the synthesized filtering.

Here we actually see Blackstar raise the Starsword to create the gap in the bridge. In the current version of this episode, the shot isn't included but it is understood that this is what happens.

In this scene, more shots of the Knight have been included, whereas the current version only includes a shot of the Knight's foot as the character stumbles into the gap.

A shot of the heroes running toward the trapped Knight is included; the current version leaves out Mara and Klone, and seems to suggest that Blackstar is much closer to the Knight than before.

Blackstar pauses to sheathe the Starsword; these three shots have been left out of the current version altogether.

As Blackstar stoops down to unmask the Knight, s/he is seen to struggle far more than in the currently available version.

The current version of the scene resumes at this point.
