XI. Other Uses

There are many other medical uses for smoked marijuana that have not been studied, or have not been adequately researched. Patients use marijuana to treat many things, such as inflammatory diseases (arthritis, rheumatism, Crohn’s disease, etc.), depression and mental illness (many schizophrenics need to be hospitalized less when they smoke marijuana), as well as others. In three human studies, marijuana has shown to cause bronchodilation, which relieves asthma attacks. Marijuana can also substitute for more dangerous, prescription narcotics and opiates. In this case, it is said that marijuana can reduce drug abuse.
