When making this website I realised that there were way too many thumbnails loading up on one page for 56k users, so I've split up Bucharest into several web pages to make it easier to browse.
First thing we did was go and visit some of the many parks in Bucharest, like Herastrau, Youth park and Cismigiu, then the Village museum, and other great museums, like the Antipa Museum, which I wasn't allowed to take photos in, a shame since I find it absolutely fascinating. Antipa Museum has the largest elephant ever found in the world. The museum has a lot of fossils, minerals like geodes, large insect collection, a huge stuffed animal collection from all around the world, and lots of animls in formadyhide. Sounds freaky, but when you see it, its really interesting. There is a website with an interactive photo tour of the Antipa Museum.
Bucharest is a mix of lovely old French style arhitecture and 'new' horrible communist concrete flats. Before communism took over in 1948, Bucharest was known as Paris of the East. Nowadays it's mainly blocks of flats, except in the far suburbs, but if you know where to look, Bucharest still has a lot of nice things to offer. Bucharest dates back to th 14th century as an important city, but historians suspect that it might have existed as early as the 12th century.
