General photos of Bucharest

These are some photos of the Bucharest city centre, some are of my dad, his night club/pool club place, Aunty Marioara, Uncle Lica, Cousin Mihai and Cousin Andra, and their various friends. Me Luke and Mihai went out a lot, and sometimes his friends came too, or we went along with them. It was a lot of fun.

The football (soccer) match we went to see was great fun, even if Dinamo Bucharest lost to Manchester United. I'm a Steaua Bucharest FC fan anyway! Arch rivals! :-þ

The storm that I filmed was amazing. You don't see anything like it here in England. Trees were ripped apart by the 80 mph winds, hail fell, and lightning everywhere, the thunder was amazing. To see the films you have to go to the main index page. It's at the bottom.

The main street that I live on is in repairs. The old tram lines have been uprooted and now new modern Metro lines are being installed. Accross the main street is a large market, can't see it very well in the photos, but its there. Nice fresh cheap food at my very doorstep. :)

During the Summer months Romania, Bucharest especially is one of the hottest places in Europe, rivaling the likes of Athens and Madrid.
This very old crurch was damaged by machinegun fire during the 1989 revolution.
This Humanitas building is right next to the church, and was fired on also.
Here I was photographics the pidgeons, but then I noticed the bulletholes. Hard to believe it was 15 years ago now.
Hehe, this is a bizarre one. The shell of that house is a memorial to the revolution, but was in a bad state of disrepair, so a bank bought it, restored it, and then built a modern bank building INSIDE it.
I forget what this building is, but it's pretty. =-)
This was the Athene Palace Hotel which was nearly destroyed during the 1989 revolution, it was bought by Hilton and is now one the of most luxurious hotels in Romania. Also one of the most expensive hehe.

The Athene Palace. It is an old building, a large concert hall.
The House of the Free Press. It is called that as a reminder that we are free from tyrrany and lies. During Communism it was called the People's Press and was a major source of Communist propaganda.

Arcul De Triumf. Similar in design and age to the French Arc De Triumph, just a bit smaller.

The CEC Bank. The oldest bank in Romania. The tall modern building behind it is the largest bank in Romania. A contrast between the new and old.

Bucharest Underground train. I like the Bucharest Underground stations. A lot are very large and each one is different. Most are paved with marble and granit, but some could use a lick of paint.

Yeah. My favorite football team's shop. They won the Champion's League in 1986 (whatever it was called then), and also won the cup for beating the UEFA cup winners in 1987. Oh and did you notice the Ford Escort with not one, but TWO spoilers?? LOL One is clearly not good enough for this guy!
This was the Bucharest fortress built buy Vlad Tepes, Dracula. The fortress was destroyed by the invading Ottoman empire sometimes in the past. The fortress is about 650 years old.

Maniuc's Han is a 17th century inn still used to this day. Makes great food. The famous treaty of Bucharest was signed here.

Romulus and Remus with the Wolf. The symbols of Rome and Latinity. Romanian derives from Latin and is 75% the same as Italian.

Mihai's family rescued this street dog after they found it with a broken back leg. They took it to the vets to get it fixed and are now taking care of it. =-) It's a girl, called Fetita meaning little girl in Romanian.
LOL yes, this IS a garrage! Never seen one shaped like the car it's actually harbouring. Yet another bizarre Romanian at work.
Me playing 8 Ball at dad's club. He's on the right of the picture. If you look at the top of the bar you can see all the trophys my dad has won in various 8 ball, 9 ball and carambol pool (carambilliards) competitions over the years. He's been the carambol champion of Romania. He's now coaching several people including the current 9 ball Romanian champion.

Some sort of world boxing championship we went to see. It was free to get in so we thought: What the hell, may aswell.
Yes, Wesley Snipes was there! I saw him with my own eyes. I've looked this up and he's in Romania filming his latest film: 7 Seconds. It's set in Romania.
