2003 UPDATES

November 30, 2003: All right, I don't want to hear it. Let's just get down to business, shall we?

Lots of new categories. The TV and Anime sections have both been split off many times over. For the time being, I think I've got most of them done; however, there will be more additions in the future, and I've made a slight change in how I do the entries to facilitate that--nothing that should impact how visitors see the site, but source code readers might find it of some interest. Two new recommendations are also up, along with our first reader-submitted recommendation.

Anyway. Sites! Lots of new sites this update--39 in all:

As before, check the master list for actual links and entries...and yes, I remembered to upload it with the rest of the site this time. :P

At some point between now and the last update, V3 inexplicably started using its masking URL to cover everything, including the links from this site. Changing the settings on my account doesn't seem to do anything, so I added frame-breaks to all the links off the index page. Hopefully, that should forestall any further problems on that end.

And I do believe that just about does it. I'll see you all in two weeks--more sites, more stories, and whatever else comes my way!

July 14, 2003: OK, down to business.

The Ranma 1/2 section has been split off. It took longer than I thought it would, which is why that's the only split this update--I wanted to get this done while I was still only a day late. Anyway. That's done. As usual, new recommendations are up. There's one new link up in the Resources section, and an important addition to the FAQ.

And, believe it or not, new sites! Twenty-three, to be exact. It's been far too long...anyway, here's the roll call:

Check the master list for the actual links and entries.

The next update is scheduled for Sunday, July 27. More sites, more resources, and the Babylon 5 section are on the agenda. Watch for it!

July 2, 2003: Three weeks into the reopening, and I'm already slacking? :)

Don't worry too much--most of the delay was recuperating after the marathon sprint it took to reopen the site. Anyway, no new sites this time, but the Resources page is finally up. Those who have been wondering what happened to the Rants section will find your answers there.

The next update is set for Sunday, July 13. Expect to see plenty of new links, especially in the TV section; I will also begin splitting off subsections in TV and Anime, beginning with Babylon 5 and Ranma 1/2.

Until then,

June 12, 2003: It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the FINALLY reopened Shack's Fanfic Clearinghouse!

To those who have stuck with me through this difficult process, you have my utmost gratitude. Your support was invaluable during this difficult time. To those who thought this site was dead--it surprised me too. :) And a special thanks goes to the maintainer of the link index who described the Clearinghouse as a site no longer being updated--that was the kick in the pants that got me working on this site again.

Anyway, down to business. All site entries have been redone in the new, improved format, and checked within the last 2 weeks. Hopefully, the new format will be easier to read and more informative than the old. The master list is also up, with a place of prominence on the main page. (You'll also note that, in the two and a half years the site has been inactive, nearly half of the sites previously on the Clearinghouse have died--and a number of others moved, sometimes several times. That is precisely why I have insisted from the beginning on constantly maintaining the links that I already have, as well as adding more.)

Those who visited the Clearinghouse before the shutdown will notice one major change right away: The TV and Anime sections have each been recombined into a single listing. In the case of the TV section, this is because most of the fandoms which previously enjoyed their own subsections have evaporated; at a rough guess, only two or three still merit their own listing. With Anime, the problem is the exact opposite--too many fandoms have been crammed together under one miscellaneous listing. In both cases, I will be slowly splitting off subsections over the next several updates.

The resources page is still not up, but should be by the time of the next update...along with a few other goodies I'll keep under my hat for now.

Welcome back, and enjoy!
