Joel's Book

The Prologue

What? He can't discharge me! I'm one of the twelve Master Magi in existence! He can't just get rid of me! I'll show them all, for I am Nudrana!

Nudrana's eyes narrowed and he began to chant. This spell was his creation, and one of his favorite. It would completely eradicate the target through a series of torturous stages. First, his (or her) flesh would begin to melt, starting with the toes, and working its way up extremely slowly. His blood would begin to heat up. His eyeballs would slowly begin to crystallize. When the subject would blink his crystalline eyes, the eyeballs would shatter. The now quite hot blood would pour out of the eye-sockets over the yet unmelted skin. The fingernails would grow extremely fast. The shoulder blades would grow drastically and pierce the skin.

Subsequently, the skin melting would reach the crotch area. If the victim was a man, his reproductive organs would be heated so rapidly that they would sublimate. If the victim was female, her reproductive organs would melt and slide out, searing everything in their path. The victim would writhe on the ground in agony, and with each turn hurt themselves more. Nevertheless, he couldn't black out, for the spell prevented it.

At this time, muscles would begin having uncontrollable spasms; bones and tendons would dissolve. The melting skin would reach the base of the neck, and all of his hair would fall out. The skull bones would separate, exposing the brain. Finally, the skull would explode, splattering what was left inside the head over everything, leaving only twitching muscles and a heart which, as if on cue, burst, flooding everything with near-boiling blood.

Picturing the King's agony, Nudrana grinned evilly and continued his chant, knowing that the spell wouldn't take effect until he was done, so that he could watch his magical handiwork. He kept his defensive barriers up to and knew his barriers were too strong to be broken by any Mage present. However, in his moment of triumph his barriers weakened ever so slightly. Seeing this, Mahala, an unimportant Minor Mage, broke through and disrupted the spell a mere two words from completion. At the acute pain that accompanies any subverted spell, Nudrana passed out.

For his crime Nudrana was shielded from his magic and thrown on a boat, while still unconscious, with one week's worth of food. The ship was cast off from a small port near Lodyka. When Nudrana awoke, first he cursed Mahala, then laughed at the sheer stupidity of the court of Garanga for letting him live. Nudrana made a vow to get revenge on the Garanga Family if it took the rest of his life. He would subject Mahala to the pain Mahala had saved Sibmah from. He would also systematically destroy all heirs to the throne, even down to the newborn child --- Tarja d'Garanga.
