mazing what some carefully placed water can do for a drawing, ain't it?
1969...what a GREAT year!...Hey, what do I know? I was barely two years old! Oh well, it was great for Vampirella, the soon-to-be cult icon.
Issues 1-4 where published in 1969 and the world was introduced to the vampire from the stars. The first four issues saw little of Vampirella, however, and the most notible issue is (of course) issue one.
In this issue we are introduced to Vampi taking a shower. (Great way to start a comic series, BTW) But this ain't no ordinary shower kids, this is blood, or as they call it on Drakulon, H2O (Hemoglobin doubled with Oxygen).
All straight from a bad Sci-fi novel, Vampi comes down from Drakulon. Forced from her dying planet, she finds a spaceship filled with humans. (sound familiar?) and ends up on little ol' planet Earth. Here she has a brief encounter with her creators, James Warren and Forrest J. Ackerman (issue 2) and then acts as narrator for issues 3 and 4.
Strong on the cheese and filled with bad art, these first few issues are just what every "B" movie buff is looking for. That's why I like 'em! If your short on the cash, try to get issues one and two, but don't feel bad if you skip issues 3 and 4. Of course, once you start your collection, there is no turning back.
