Well, I'm not actually in good standing with any RPG at this point in time. I've been quite busy IRL and have neglected everything from the DDK to Sarc. Maybe someday soon I'll find a way to rid myself of this RealLife and get back to being the happy freak RPGer I once was.
The DDK: A freeform medieval fantasy role playing game loosely run under the guidance of Damsel and the Council. I have the honor of being one of the aforementioned councilors, as well as a whole parade of infrequently used characters. My characters include Nadja, her slave Rhenfeld, the Panthers (Othil, Sephira and Lagu), Talyn, and of course Nomad Scry. Rhenfeld was running the main inn in the city of Tronicia. Othil & Sephira were opening a smithy. Talyn got barely started before he was captured by some unknown entity. And this is where Nomad found his final home, shortly before doing the impossible... dieing. Gaia Islands: Another FMFRPG, this time created and abandoned by Terra (Hawke, Sky, et al.) Terra is a fellow DDKer. Here the adventure involved Dhonafvain (that's me) embarking on a mission for his queen to protect the daughter-heir to the throne. Along the way a sea captain was lost, an elf and angel joined the party, and a dragon was slain. I miss playing here primarily becuase of my interactions with a certain Shape. Rune Wars: This fantasy RPG is run by the ever elusive ScrollKeeper, a former haunter of the DDK. The Wars is somewhat different in flavor from the previous two RPGs in that Keeper is our GameMaster, and the other two are masterless. I am Dhonafvain here as well, although the character is quite disimiliar to Dhona in Gaia. Here I have a secret, one that affects greatly how I portray Dhona's actions... Nope, not telling. LOL Dhona was last seen in the DarkCave with a vampire and two members of an elite and elitist race. Not a safe place to be cooling my heals. The World of Faerith: Faerith is also a mastered FMFPRG, this time run by my co-DDK council chair Ed/Sel. I didn't actually get very far into this one at all... Shame too, since Ed/Sel is such a cool cat. I was playing twins (whose names escape me) running away from home, and into danger. Along the way they met up with a troup of actors (all played by a certain Shape) and of course, disaster ensued. Nameless: This is one that I am actually a part master/part player in. I just cannot reveal where it is or what it is called for security reasons. LOL (I'm serious, really!) This RPG is a dark fantasy scifi mixture set in the somewhat near future. A dark and bleak place for a somewhat insane telekenitic going by the name of Kaltia... He happens into some action and basically his loose marbles rattle about, convincing him to follow a woman who is being hunted by vampires. These vampires are not a natural creature (if that can ever be the state of things for vampires) but were accidentally created by the military attempting to blend magic and biotech to make the perfect warriors. Why are they hunting the woman? Because she is the one who knows the magic to fix the vampires, to make them into the augmented humans they originally were. Towers: StarTowers currently has not even begun.. Probably becuase only one of the prospective players has ever posted a character for the GM to review. ST is a far future fantasy tech RPG run via the FUDGE rule system. It sounds like a groovy idea, but not necessarily what I would normally go into. Let's hope this RealLife dies soon, eh? Sarcophagus: My dark fantasy RPG based on the 3rd rule system and set within the ElderGod world. Never heard of 3rd or ElderGod? Good! Cuz they are mine, all mine, my precious... Oops, sorry talking to the OneRing again. Suffice it to say that this game is likely to never get off the ground. I have not completed the rules system, the world, or the adventure itself at this time. And even when I do (ha!) I'd still need to find players willing to play their hearts out and put up with my frequent absenses and interest swings. |

Ah, back in the day, we used to have to play RPGs face to face. How the Internet has changed things, eh? The funny thing about me is that I have only played F2F once. Sure, I've run a few miserable sessions as the GM, but my lack of playing experience really makes me a horrible GM. Anyhow, here are a few of the rule-system books that I own.
AD&D 2nd Edition: What a mixed basket of eggs this one is. If you want to play face to face, count on needing to know how to play using AD&D. It is quite simply the most popular RPG by a huge margin. And yet, for every strength this system has, it is balanced by at least one weakness. Hence my attempts at creating 3rd (a simplistic realistic and flexible fantasy RPG.) I own more AD&D books than is reasonable. My favorite setting is the Forgotten Realms and I can look up and see at least six box sets simply dealing with varying areas in Faerun. Quite a few years ago, back when I was still on my first web site, I had decided I was going to run an online campaign set in the city of Waterdeep. Like most of my RPG efforts, nothing ever came to fruition. D&D 3rd. Edition: I only own the Players Handbook. I never finished going through it and currently use it as a keyboard prop. Not that I dislike the system. In fact, everything I saw impressed me highly. Then again, much of the thinking behind the way the rules now work follows the same logic train that I followed when conceptualizing what my 3rd needed. EarthDawn: I bought this system because of the EarthDawn novel 'The Longing Ring' (by Kristopher Kubasik?). The world was very different than the standard fantasy crap I was/am accustomed to. Besides, who wouldn't want to meet J'Role? As it goes, I was highly impressed with the world and much less so with the rules system. BluePlanet: AH! Now this is the abso coolest RPG I have ever read. The rules system itself seemed a mite bit too complex/technical for my personal preference but I don't honestly remember it that well. The setting is so impressive it is hard (oh so hard) to resist the temptation to read the GMs notes revealing the secrets of the world. BluePlanet is a fairly hard science fiction RPG. It's the future, and a gateway, wormhole, jumpgate, (something or other) has been discovered. A probe sent through returns with images of a beautiful water world... just waiting to be exploited! People are sent to the new planet and then chaos descends on Earth, leaving these people to become the new natives. After a hundred years, things have settled down on Earth and contact is re-established. A certain mineral (IIRC) on the blue planet is discovered to be vital to a new technology that extends the human life expectancy. Conflicts arise between the Earth based goverment, the neo-natives, the original natives, the 'uplifted' cetaceans (yeah, you can play as a dolphin. How cool is that?) Fading Suns: Well, I don't actually seem to have this one anymore. I thnk I lost it during one of my many moves. I don't recall the rules system at all, except that I thought the level of detail provided on a planet by planet basis was weak. This is a far future psuedo-medieval space RPG involving aliens, jumpgates, religion, mysteries, and more. I think FS had a lot of potentional, I just don't know if it ever achieved it. Vampire: The Dark Ages: An effective yet simplistic rules system combined with compelling characters and a decent to strong backstory makes this a sure fire winner. Then again, who hasn't at least heard of Vampire: The Masquerade (TDA's big sister)? This seems to be another one to have made it into my 'lost in transit' pile. I, of course, was particularly fond of the Machev... ummm, the insane vampires. Alternity: The sci-fi sibling to D&D3rd, it set the basic ideas in motion for the unified and simplified rules system used in D&D. It comes with no setting, merely a book of rules to be melded with your own creative ideas or those provided (at a cost, of course) by the guys who bought TSR, Wizards of the Coast. Hey, didn't I hear that Mattel bought WotC? Uh, wierd. |
