The Royal Canadian Sea Cadets
For young men and women 12 to 19 years of age

Any young person who is physically fit, mentally
alert and is keen to join with others in a program that
emphasizes the traditions and science of the sea may enrol in the
Royal Canadian Sea Cadets. While Sea Cadets are organized along
Naval lines, the primary purpose is to instil in young people a
sense of pride and purpose, a respect for and loyalty to their
community and their country - young people who will be proud to
say, "I am a Canadian".
No fees are required but all cadets may be asked to help in
fund-raising activites such as special parades, tag days, etc.
Training
The Cadet Training Year begins in early
September and continues through until mid-June. Cadets attend
training every Saturdays 08h30 to 15h00 at HMCS DONNACONA.
Normal training begins around 08h45
and the cadets get ready for CLOLOURS which starts at 08h50 and classes start at 10h00 and go intil 12h00 during this time,
cadets are trained in such subjects as leadership, citizenship,
physical fitness, drill, ropework, boatwork, Naval tradition, and
a variety of other subjects.
In addition to the regular Saturday
training, cadets also have the opportunity to participate in
various weekend activities including fund-raising activities,
citizenship tours, dances, Balls,and sail training weekends.
At the end of the training year, an Annual
Review is held, in which the Cadets are given the opportunity to
showcase the talents they have acquired during the year in front
of parents and spectators Our annual Review is June 6 1999.
In addition to the training received at the
Corps level, Cadets also have the opportunity to attend a variety
of summer camps, which provide training in such areas as Sailing,
Leadership, Seamanship, and Music. Senior cadets who have shown
excellence in the training program may also have the opportunity
to participate in a cruise aboard an operational Canadian Naval
Vessel, or partipate in a Tall Ship Cruise or an Exchange to a
Foreign Country.
