TOY REVIEW

Name: J-Five
Allegiance: Cybertron
Function: Sonic Chief
Vehicular Mode: Nozomi 500 Bullet Train
Average Price: 1980 JPY

VEHICLE MODE

Length: 24cm.
J-Five transforms into a blue and white Nozomi 500 bullet train. This train is currently the fastest in the world with speeds reaching up to 300 km/h! J-Five has an edditional appeal to children because the Nozomi 500 is extremely popular among kids. The toy is a very faithful replica of a real Nozomi 500. It sports eight wheels and all the windows are transparent. The toy also has special couplings which allows it to join onto other members of JRX (J-Four and J-Seven), forming a train. These trains can also be used to form the "Great 3 Train" mode as seen in the cartoon series.

TRANSFORMATION  ROBOT MODE

FIrstly, open the rear compartment and detach the coupling. Swing the barrel over and turn the grip, forming robot gun. Slide this behind the train. Open the mid section, revealing robot legs. Rotate lower legs 180 degrees. Fold down robot toes and swing wheels back to form heels. Fold cockpit down in front of robot. Bring robot shoulders to the front. Bring down the arms and rotate forearms 180 degrees. Turn head 180 degrees. Insert rifle into fist.

ROBOT MODE

Height: 16cm.
Points of Articulation: 16
J-Five is the leader of "Team Shinkansen" ('Team Bullet Train') in the TV show. In robot mode, J-Five is a slender robot. The blue and white colour scheme of the train mode carries on here. The eyes are red. The head sculpt resembles the front of a Nozomi. The wheels on the soles of the feet can be used for skating. The gun has an electronic gimmick which causes a red LED to flash. J-Five can also combine with J-Four and J-Seven to form the gestalt robot, JRX.

OVERALL

I think J-Five is a slightly simplistic toy, much like the other members of Team Shinkansen as well. However, they do have good articulation, transform into very realistic bullet trains and can combine to form JRX. Their vehicle modes are too cool! However, my major complaint would be the Cybertron (Autobot) insignia, or lack of!! Why!?!
