Neraphrates the Unpios.....150 points
Created by Adrian Johnson

Neraphrates was once a great servant of the Imperium. He was an orator of excellent quality, able to subdue the most rabid mob, or whip up a frenzy from the most dosile of pacifists. Once long ago he served the Imperium. On the world of Jandax II, he was in the process of converting the populace to the Imperial Creed. He travelled this barberous world, spreading the faith like no other could. One day, though, he stumbled upon an evil tome. He was going to burn it, along with the library it was found in, but the book had a mystical lure he could not resist. He began to study it. The more he did, the more secrets he learnt of Chaos. His corruption had begun. As he was falling deeper into evil, a chapter of Space Marines, the Barahad Sycthes, arrived to claim the planet in the name of the Imperium. When they arrived, they were sickened. Neraphrates had lifted himself to the position of king and had turned the populace onto Chaos Worship. Neraphrates would not have his work undone by a few Space Marines, and he asked for a parley with the Chapter commander. Agreeing to the odd request, the Commander accepted and ordered the dispatch of an Erversor assassin in secret to destroy Neraphrates. Neraphrates was a cunning man, and only sent a message saying he would be slightly delayed. Instead, he conferred with lower ranking officers in the Chapter, and filled their heads with jealously and malice. He had corrupted the Chapter, and it tore itself apart in a civil war. Eventually, the loyalist chapter was forced to withdraw from the planet. Neraphrates seized the armour of a dead chaplain and fled to the eye of terror, travelling with the Corrupted half of the Barahad Sycthes. To this day he has instilled hate and discord in opposing armies, and then allowed his own army (or the army he is serving) to reap the rewards of the unrest.

Special Rules
Subvert. Before each battle, Neraphrates will attempt to infiltrate the enemy camp and turn a squad or two to Chaos. In game terms do the following. Once army list have been picked, but before deployment, roll a D6 and consult the following table: (Please note that Grey Knights, Inquisitors, Assassins, Terminators, All non-living targets and Tyranids are immune to these rules)
D6 Roll:Result
1Neraphrates is found infiltrating the camp before he can turn anyone to Chaos, and is killed. Award the non-Chaos player the Victory Points.
2-4Neraphrates somehow is unable to convert an opposing squad to Chaos, and nothing happens.
5Neraphrates convinces one randomly determined squad that Chaos is the truth, but the squad grapples with it's old beliefs. At the end of each player turn, that squad must pass an Ld test or fall under the control of the Chaos player for the remainder of the game. No victory points are awarded though.
6Neraphrates corrupts one randomly determined squad that Chaos is the way forward, and that squad is then handed over to the Chaos player as they have now defected. No victory points are awarded to the Chaos Player. However, all enemy units hate the defecting squad for the whole battle.
The Forbidden Tome
This dusty, worn old book contains many secrets of Chaos. Some speculate that it originates from the Black Library itself. It corrupts anyone who looks at it to Chaos, slowly but surely. In battle those who glance at it find their gaze strangely glued to it, and often lose concentration and pay the price.

In game terms, if any enemy unit can see Neraphrates, they must pass an Ld test or be able to do nothing that turn. Only one squad may be drawn to the book at a time, and always roll for the units with the lowest Ld first.
