This will have a rating system as such: 5 = Excellent, 4 = Very
good, 3 = Good, 2 = Not So Good, 1 = Bad, 0 = Holy Crap! What were they thinking?
DareDevil = 4
Great double disc with a full 4 hours of goodies on the second disc. This film
has a love and hate affair with the fans. Even though I actually liked it. It
was more based on reality than the other movies. Heck, DareDevil even loses
a tooth. The only problem was the supporting cast was not given enough screen
time expecially Bullseye. The commentary by Director and Producer was pretty
funny and insightful with their honesty with some of the bloopers and tricks
of the trade. Both enhanced viewing mode and on-screen track has loads of info
for movie buffs and my favorite audio description the the visually impaired.
Not only is it thoughtful considering the subject matter but for you screenwriters
out there it shows you how scene description breakdown plays out in a visual
matter. That alone is worth a couple of classes at UCLA. All these features
for a movie should be included on all future releases. The highlight of disc
2 is all the writers for DareDevil like Stan Lee, Frank Miller, Kevin Smith
and others in a one hour documentary. It shows through the years how each writer
did its take on the. Jennifers screen test, multi-angel outakes, many featurettes,
lots of galleries, a great comic to film comparison and a very nice touch of
including "A Day with Tom Sullivan" who was born blind served as a
consultant on the film. A lot of care has been put into this 2 disc collection
and it shows. Well done. PS check out the cameos by Stan Lee ch. 6, Frank Miller
at ch. 19 and Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th Jason!) at ch. 5. Cool!
Terminator T2 - Extreme Edition = 2
Extreme Warning of this review!!! If you have "T2 - Ultimate Edition"
do not, repeat, do not throw it away or replace it! You have one of the best
DVD on the market as far as having the complete version of this movie, on the
making of., etc. please see seperate review below...WHY? Here Goes....
Buyer Beware! Even though the first disc does have the long awaited audio commentary
with James Cameron and PIP interactive aka Matrix and X-Men this whole set was
a complete waste of time. The problem is the second disc which is a total ripoff
in features and not worth the price of two discs. The two documentaries both
total 30 minutes only! And for PC lovers you need Windows XP, they don't give
you a chioce fo other requirements and are stuck with their Media Player 9 series
and Interactual Player which is just being monopolozing in your chioces. Sure
they give you the later but can I have a choice please? And half the time it
crashed on me and couldn't get to the other features which are two games which
are not evern worth the time. NOTE: You don't need the second disc to see the
theatrical version. It's available as a easter egg on disc one. One the main
menu go to sensory control. Highlight, don't enter. Clcik your right arrow about
5 times and in red the phrase "The Future is Not Set" shows up. Click
on it and your good to go. So you don't even need the second disc. What a waste
of money.Well somebody had to pay for that metal case. Collector's my ass. The
previous version had more info on one disc then this had on two. Go figure.
Terminator T2 - Ultimate Edition = 5
If you can't afford to go to film school or just was curious on the whole process
of filmmaking from beginning to end. This is the disc. This took me he whole
weekend just to go through everything. Must of all the goodies on this disc
has been deleted on the new disc is what makes this disc so special. My favorites:
50 chapters on the filmmaking process, over 700 storyboards, entire screenplay,
to many things to mention but the highlight is on the PC you watch the movie
with the storyboards and read the script all at the same time. This is priceless
for film buffs. This is the disc that all other disc should be compared to.
If this is not in your collection, shame on you! And you call yourself a movie
fan! And no! You can't have mine, not even on E-bay.
X-MEN 1:5 = 5
Finally the long awaited 2 disc set of X-MEN! There is the long awaited audio
commentary from Brain Singer. While watching the film you can go behind the
scenes on the making of aka The Matrix DVD. On disc two is the complete making
of from beginning to end which last 5 hours and covers a lot on the process
of filmmaking. More than enough featurettes to mention. Great movie premiere
footage from different countries. Just too much to mention here. Not only this
a a great weekend killer but it does make you appreciate on the hard work it
takes to put something like this together. Favorite part: Director singer is
informed that the movie is going to get a bigger budget doing filmmaking only
to find out its going to the advertising budget instead. Not a happy look on
his face. Its a keeper.
They finally got this right and they should of done this the first time around
but it was worth the wait.
The Day The Earth Stood Still = 5
This Studio Classic Edition is the ultimate sci-fi keeper for your dvd collection.
After all these years this movie is still timeless. This is what great science
fiction is all about. Great 70 minute documentary on the making of...and for
you Star Trek fans there is an audio commentary from Directors Robert Wise and
Nicolas Meyer. Great photo galleries, actual shooting script included and other
goodies makes this disc a most to have. Great trivia including the famouse scene
in which the great GORT picks up Patricia Neal and you see the zipper on his
suit, then the wires holding Ms. Neal up cause the actor was too weak to hold
her up then walking up to the spaceship with a dummy replacing her for the long
shot. All in one scene with quick editing. This is fun stuff ! Considering how
old the film is it's amazing they had this much information to put a DVD edition
like this.
KUROSAWA - A documentary on the acclaimed director = 4
An excellent documentary on filmmaker Akira Kurosawa that covers his whole career.
What makes this disc special is the extra interviews that were not included
when this first aired. Including team scriptwriting, costumers, actors, lighting,
editing, swordplay among others. Director Kurosawa has been influencing other
directors including George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola and here you see why.
One picture called 'Hidden Fortress' was a direct influence for Star Wars. If
you are a budding filmmaker this is a most. Also included are interviews with
Clint Eastwood and James Coburn and how Magnificent 7 and Fist Full of Dollars
were inspired by 7 Samarai and Yojimbo. It would have been nice to have included
at least a clip from every one of his movies and what other american movies
have been influenced by Kurosawa but there are links included for you to find
this out. Every die hard film fan should see this and learn something.
