Flying Koala Games is an umbrella for an assortment of role-playing game (RPG) related materials. It started off as a site for a homebrewed game setting, then started to spiral out of control as online gaming archives, essays, and fiction were added to the contents.

7th Sea

7th Sea is the property of Alderac Entertainment Group. It is "a roleplaying game of swashbuckling and sorcery, piracy and adventure, diplomacy and intrigue, archeology and exploration," according to AEG's website. It is also my current favorite setting and system. Red Ribbons is the home page for a six-month campaign I ran there. In addition to the usual game logs and character pages, I developed a fair set of resources that elaborate, extend or explain various aspects of the game world.

Mirror Theah is my current project. It's an amusing lark, based on the "Evil Twin Universe" idea as seen in the Star Trek episode "Mirror, Mirror."

Ianthe

Ianthe is a 100% organically grown fantasy genre setting. Most of the development for the nations and peoples of Ianthe took place at the gaming table. The result is a patchwork monster - as a GM, I used the time-honored practice of using and modifying existing game supplements to flesh things out. The reader might recognize Forgotten Realms dieties and a villian or two, and placenames from the Kingdom of Kalamar.

The lands of Ianthe currently webbed include the Nargoth Empire, a corrupt and crumbling ancient realm; Ehosia, a desert theocracy plagued by schism; the Legasha Forest, one of the last elven strongholds; and the Noxatl Jungle, home of a race of Aztec-inspired gnomes.

Saromatia

Unlike Ianthe, Saromatia spent nearly a year in development before hitting the gaming table. The setting (an isolated feudal matriarchy on the brink of a Renaissance) was carefully developed using historical and mythological motifs, and is an entirely original creation.

Annwn

Development on Annwn has stalled out as I've moved away from AD&D in recent years. The intent was to create an Otherworld for Ianthe. While Ianthe is populated by peoples inspired by historical cultures, Annwn would be populated by peoples inspired by historical mythologies. A mythic Irish/Welsh region, complete with great heroes and fearsome Sidhe, was planned.

Game Theory

While playing Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Second Edition (AD&D 2e), I found that I frequently wanted to create character types not supported by the rules. In good Game Mastering tradition, I made up my own new classes. Reality mages were created specifically for a new evil diety in Ianthe (based heavily on Legend of the Five Rings' Shadow). Blood mages are more general, more playable, and I believe better-written on the whole.

I have additionally written a series of essays on various items of interest to gamers and Game Masters, from running an online game to a method of novel setting creation to running a good swashbuckling game.

Gamer Grab Bag

Some of the site's content isn't easily classified. Gamer Food! is a collection of the recipies I've used to feed the eight person horde that descends upon my home weekly. All recipies have been field-tested in the kitchen and fed to real gamers. Evil Masterminding for Idiots is a series of humorous short stories about three novice Masterminds on their way up.
