For those of you who are new to The ß~Hive Caƒe......let me tell you a little about us...

..We're a small, online magazine, devoted to bringing the Average Joe up to speed on what's going on in Outer Space and with NASA and current Missions......but we also wish to keep the practicing amateurs updated on Space Happenings, too, along with current and past Nasa conspiracies and coverups and many other aspects of space exploration including The Hubble Space Telescope discoveries,MIR, Freedom/The International Space Station and much, much more...

IN this issue you'll read about my recent trip to Kennedy Space Center for the Jan 22nd night launch of The Space Shuttle Endeavour. You can also view an MPEG movie of the launch (184K or 370K) and see some very interesting links to the far corners of NASA's websites......so it's time once again to strap on your space boots and gear up for another

Mission (way out of) Control !!!

...As some of you may already know, NASA was almost cut of from all funding of it's manned missions to anywhere outside of Earths orbit...(read about it HERE )..in fact, THEY WERE cut off but thanx to some back door politics and the current wave of succes that NASA is riding (thanx to the popular Pathfinder Mission), that budget cut has been spared and most funding has been restored for studying the plans for mans return to the MOON and a future manned mission to Mars....Personally, I would have been very dissappointed had this funding cut happened...

I've added this months PIC of the MONTH here on the left.....This is one of the most recent images taken from the mars Global Surveyor, which is now orbiting the red planet..the image also qualifies as the longest image I have ever seen...It was sent in from a fellow named Jim Steele..Thanx Jim..(your prize is in the mail)....

Updates from Way Outer Space

Well folks..!!....quite a lot is going on in and around space these days...In fact, I would venture to say that Space Exploration and it's popularity is at an all time high...Man has had a presence in space (human or otherwise) for 40 years this Jan. and I for one am very impressed with just how far we've come in this short time...

look at this list of past, current and future missions and you may find yourself agreeing with me...WE ARE THE BOMB..!! A link here will take you to an online gameshow just like the old "Will the real "whoever" please stand up"?...choose between Einstein and Freud..you ask the questions...(if you know what to ask)....

Also for your enjoyment is a link to the difference between science 100 years ago and now...see just how far we've come..!!

The NEAR spacecraft flew by the earth, for a gravity assisted flyby, a couple of weeks ago on it's way to meet the minor planet/asteroid EROS....as it neared, :-) ,the Earth, it also did a bit of a 'sunglint dance' for us in the night sky on Jan.22nd...this was almost four hours after the Endeavour went up...My buddy and I were sitting in a bar in Daytona Beach, playing pool and having a good time...the fact is we were drunk and forgot about the Sunglint maneaveur...I noticed the time about 15 minutes late...but seeing the night launch of Endeavour from the Space Coast was enough.. you'll be able to read more about the trip further on down in The Final Cut...

Updates from Way Outer Space

There seems to be new evidence of artificiality in the Cydonia region of Mars..it just keeps coming folks..!!...yet we're still not convinced...!!!..because there is no real proof...just evidence....see some more of it...and then visit a link at the bottom of this page to the MARS Red Planet RoundTable Discussion Board to speak your mind on the subject... here

I previously wrote about the Russian Space Agency getting creative in their ways to raise money....for example; the consideration for CNN to send a correspondent up to MIR for a hefty fee.....and also the possibility of a major motion picture being filmed on MIR with some Hollywood bigshots...well now they've resorted to slugging goods on The Home Shopping Network....desperate times call for creative methods...I'm all for it..!!...Read the full story here...NASA will be getting it's own exposure in a major motion picture coming out this spring...Armageddon...(I wrote about this movie in last months Issue)..What I didn't tell you was that you'll be able to chat with it's co-star next to Bruce Willis...Her name is Jessica Steen and she'll be in IRC chat on Tuesday Feb. 24th at 9 PM...Point your IRC Client to events.scifi.com and go to room #auditorium

The Mission to search for water and signs for life on the jovian moon Europa has been approved ..!!..The Europa Orbiter has a target launch date in 2002...two full years before Cassini arrives at Saturn..!!!

see a map of Galileo's closest approach of Europa here in Febuary.....However these commitments by NASA continue to convince me that they are serious about searching for signs of life in our solar system...I just wish they would pay a little more attention to Mars...

...Speaking of Mars...did you know that you can sign add your childrens name to a CD_ROM, online, which will be placed on the Mars Polar Lander and launched to Mars in 1999..??..I've added my daughter to the list and I hope one day she may be able to pick this CD-ROM up with here own hands......you can add your child HERE

Louis Farrakahn said an interesting thing a while back..He said.."he'd had a vision of beig abducted by aliens and carried over Mexico in a spacecraft called the 'Mother Wheel"...He also said he saw a 'City in the Sky".."..this UFO also conveniently dropped him back off in Washington...whatever

...this image shows the position of Comet wild2...The Comet that the spacecraft Stardust will be visiting and bringing back to Earth, samples of cosmic dust....

as we approach the 1st aniversary of the Heavens Gate debacle one can only wonder who's behind this comet..¿¿¿

the FBI and NSA have set up some very interesting sites that reveal some of their documents on UFO's and other paranormal activity...an interesting turn of events there ,since so little, in the way of information, has come from these sources... to say the least....

There is a very interesting possible coverup coming undone in some old NASA circles regarding the Apollo 12 video (MPEG) which may have caught a UFO on tape, on their way to the moon....and a remembered transmission between mission control and Apollo12

The Final Cut

The ß~Hive Caƒe goes to KSC
~~~T Minus 22 HRS

.....as we left Myrtle Beach for the 8 hour drive south, CNN was reporting on the radio that there was only a 40% chance for launch the next night....

We had discussed it earlier amongst ourselves and we all agreed that if we didn't go, we would surely miss an on-time launch...and how right we were... ~~~T Minus 14 HRS

......after an all night drive we arrived at Daytona Beach (where we were forced to stay due to a lack of hotel rooms near the Space Center)..and settled in to the hotel...

~~~T Minus 5 HRS

...after spending the day at KSC we retreated back to Daytona for dinner at Carraba's and a rest at the hotel....

~~~T Minus 45 minutes and we're arriving at Titusville...where US 50 ends at US 1...The crowd was huge...the sun had set about 90 minutes earlier but it was still 70° and people were everywhere....thousands of them..!!!...it was definitely a carnival atmosphere....the sky was clear and the stars were out...

We parked on somebody's lawn and walked across the highway..to the water...

...it was there I witnessed my first launch.....9:48 PM, Jan.22nd~98...!!....AN ON-TIME LAUNCH..!!...the ninth shuttle in a row that has gone up exactly on schedule if I'm not mistaken...

T Minus (we listened to the radio)... 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1...............dead silence...not a person among the thousands was speaking......all eyes were on the shuttle..it was about 5 miles away across the bay....we had a clear view of LC39A...but the shuttle Endeavour, itself, was blocked from view by the frame of the Launch Complex..

...for the first second of the launch I was a little stunned...I hadn't realized it would be so bright...my first thought was that it looked a lot like a nuclear explosion blast like you'd see on tv...or from one of those comet impact movies

the extreme brightness lasted only a few seconds...by the time I recovered from the initial sequence, Endeavour was up and moving....people were cheering it on...some were even screaming..!!....i felt like I was at a concert at this point....

..I put down my digital camera and put my 10x50 binoculars up to my eyes....the shuttle then let go of its solid rocket boosters....

it was a moving experience seeing them seperate with my own eyes....I guess I had mild flashbacks of Challenger...

I followed the orbiter all the way until it turned off it's engines and entered orbit.....

we were then stuck in a traffic jam for over two hours...lalalallala

But the launch..??..it was truly spectacular....the night sky lit up like a candle..there were some clouds on the horizon, which made for a great backdrop....for something man-made...it all seemed so natural.....a memory for a lifetime, to be sure....
