Welcome once again all my fellow space fans to the ONE YEAR OLD ß~Hive Caƒe/Eyes on Space Issue!!!
Who'dve thunk this little e~zine ever would have turned into what it is today let alone lasted a whole year (and still going strong)?....To give you an idea of how it all started, click on the rotating banner
We've come so far and so much has happened that it's really hard to decide where to begin this month....If memory serves me right, I think we had about 25 visitors read the first issue....35 or 40 the second and maybe 100 the third.....site visits have pretty much exploded since then...and we get a little bigger every month....in fact, the last issue celebrated it's 2,300th visitor!!...I'm quite proud of that!!....To give you all an idea of just how far we've come along, All the past Issues can be LINKED HERE.
OK so enough of the past....after all this is a spacely column so in tune with that let's focus on the future because that's where it's at and that's where we, at The ß~Hive Cafe, are going.
Have you got kids??...Then THIS SITE is for you...save it and get your kids to visit there while they're on your PUTER....I'm thinking if we all do this as parents then we'll be raising an elite clique to rule this planet in a couple dozen years...I'm doing my part...are you???

...enough on the Intro to this months column...let's now feast upon the usual fare..
OK, so I've noticed an increase in unusual things
lately
and in particular how active the sun has been, and
how
things that are watching the sun were having trouble
also.
(I'm talking about SOHO's dissappearance). A few
evenings
ago while watching a beautiful sunset from my home in
South
Carolina, I decided to pull out my 10x50 binoculars
and get
a closeup....NOW THIS WAS TRULY A MAGNIFICENT
VIEW!!..(if
you own a pair and like to watch the sun set...break
out your
binocs!!..you'll be surprised!!)...but one thing I
did
notice was two distinct black spots on the
sun...initially
I thought it was my eyes....that is until the next
night
when I watched the sun set once again....same spots
same
place....Now I don't really know much about the sun
but I

Many of you know that the famous robotic arm on the space shuttle (used on the Hubble Repair missions) was made in Canada...but how many of you know of Canada's Space Program??..Go here to Canadian Space Guide to learn a little about it.
....and with all the hoopla over the new Millennium and these great sci-fi Comet/Asteroid movies...how can one not visit this site frequently??...It's the NE AR EARTH ASTEROID tracking home page...these are the people who may just save the world.!....from this

It seems that NASA is determined to find signs of life on Mars (past or present) and also elsewhere in our solar system. Here's a great link to an archive of all past PLANETARY MISSIONS ..I can't believe just how many went to Mars!!

cancelled a rover mision in 2001, enough money has
surfaced to send a smaller rover (dubbed Marie
Curie)...this is great news for space fans all over
the

and if I understand things correctly, even the
Martian
moon PHOBOS is under consideration for some life
searching
exploration!!!
In other Mission news...The Stardust SEND YOUR NAME TO A COMET campaign has been tremendously successful..and for good reason...it seems that people really do want to be involved, or at least feel like they're involed in space exploration and this is a great way for NASA to reach out to the general public and stir interest in their programs!! Our hats are off to NASA for this one and of course the SEND YOUR NAME TO MARS program too. (ok call me lazy but if you want a link to either site where you can add your name to these missions then you'll have to visit last months issue to find them)

More on Mars.....Barry Digregorio...he has a book out on how NASA may be hiding some of the facts from the public..from you and me....I've been talking lately with someone who's bought his book....and he's quite impressed...so much so that he offered to review it here (a short one anyway) and I quote

...and on a Final Cut type Final note....the "first man in space" ALAN SHEPARD died on July 22nd/98....not only was he the first man in space but he was also the first man to golf on the moon!!...If you've ever seen The Right Stuff..you'll know how big a part he did play in Early NASA Days...now he's gone...but not forgotten...
We here at The ß~Hive Cafe/Eyes on Space would like to challenge NASA to a memorial for Alan Shepard....and you've got a year to get it all together.....what we'd like to see is an actual 'live' image of the flag on the moon from earth...THAT'S RIGHT!!...NEXT 4TH OF JULY/99 (the last year of this millennium)...on the 4th....we'd like to see a 'LIVE' image of the U.S. flag on the moon.....all in the name of the first american in space and the first golfer on the moon!!...Alan Shepard....NASA says they can't see the flag with HST because....well, I say, you changed the name of Mars Pathfinder after Sagan died...why not change the name of the flag station on the moon??..it was a defining moment in U.S. history and will remain so for a long time.......target date=July 4th/99....with all that money we're sending your way NASA...it's time for something for the people...and for Alan...
