VI. Cancer Chemotherapy Treatment IX. Epilepsy In Western medicine, the first major application of marijuana was treating convulsions. It has been reported, more recently, to treat epilepsy. In a number of animal studies, marijuana has shown to suppress convulsions. For some people, nothing else will work to reduce their convulsions. Cannabiniol, a non-psychoactive ingredient of marijuana, not found in Marinol, seems to be the potent anti-convulsant. In an interview with the Journal of the International Hemp Association, Dr. Mahmoud ElSohly stated that "CBD [cannabidiol] is famous for [its] ani-convulsant activity." In a survey of 308 epileptic patients, it was found that use of marijuana appeared to delay the first onset of complex partial seizures. |
