X-Factor was founded by the original members of the X-Men, who have since left the team. At first, X-Factor publicly posed as a group of human mutant-hunters that captured allegedly dangerous mutants. In truth, X-Factor would find young mutants in order to prevent government experimentation on them and then train them in the use of their powers.
    After an attack on Muir Island by the psionic entity known as the Shadow King, which reunited X-Factor with the X-Men, a new X-Factor was formed, under the auspices of the American government. The original members of the "new" X-Factor were Havok, Polaris, Wolfsbane, Multiple Man, Strong Guy, and Quicksilver. X-Factor investigated menaces that were believed to be of a superhuman nature for the government.
    X-Factor's charter has recently been revoked as a result of the Onslaught Crisis, and the team has gone underground.
