Saganth Gepjorn
Penetrate the blinding fog with intellect, and the answers shall reveal themselves...
Saganth was born a small baby in the town of Hillsfar. His parents didn't want him and he was left in the wilderness to die. Fortunately for him, a traveler found him and brought him to the local orphanage. He stayed there until he became old enough to be on his own. All the boys there poked fun at his lack of strength and he didn't make any friends. That is until one day when a boy stopped by on the bidding of his church to aid the people running the orphanage. This boy didn't try to make fun of Saganth, but he talked to him. Saganth was pleased to have made a friend, and swore to be loyal to him all of his life. His name was Guerrand Shadowslayer. While all of the boys at school played games and trained in armed combat, Saganth stayed inside and studied. While his muscles atrophied, Saganth became a true genius.
Saganth was jumped many days by a group of boys walking from school. Saganth was often beaten badly, but this toughened him up and he became resistant to pain. One day while he was being beaten, a man about Saganth's size stepped in and injured the boys who were hurting Saganth. The boys fled and the man bandaged him up. Saganth was thankful and wanted to know how he could defeat all of those boys. The man told him of powers he wielded that came primarily from his mind and not from his body. Saganth became intrigued and the man told him he would teach him, but he would have to pay 10 gold. Saganth nodded and left, thinking of how to earn the money. He went to Guerrand's church and did work there. He learned much about religions there but the pay was too low for him. So he fell in with the Underworld.
Saganth did everything from helping to rig the local gambling halls to profit skimming off errands he ran for people who he was doing favors for. Saganth was given a stiletto to have in case he needed to defend himself and he became proficient in it. Saganth finally earned the 10 gold and paid the man who helped him. His name was Craz. He taught him the origin of spells, how to use to use them. Saganth learned of past histories and current ones and how to benefit from plant life should he ever need to. He also became multi-lingual as Craz taught him languages he might need when he goes off into the world.
One night, a group of shadowy figures broke into the laboratory and assaulted Craz. He fought valiantly, but could not fend them all off. He told Saganth he wanted him to keep his spellbook and use it for good causes. Saganth thanked him and fled the building, powerless to save his master. He went back to the orphanage. Guerrand asked him if he would accompany him to Elventree because Illmater, his god, had told him he needed him to do important business there. Saganth accepted and this was the beginning of his adventuring career. In back of his mind he could never forget about those shadowy figures that had slain his mentor. His fear and loathing of them made Saganth swear that if he ever encounter the slayers, that he would kill them mercilessly.
