OF AUTHORITIES IN ALBANIA
Tirana - Today the Children's Human Rights
Centre of Albania (CRCA) in partnership with Save the Children in Albania
(SCiA) will start at 11 o'clock a new training course on the Convention on
the Rights of the Child (CRC) with the participation of the education
authorities representatives from 30 cities all over Albania. The title of
the training course is "Promoting Children's Rights in Albania". The training is the second to be organised
based on the partnership of CRCA and SCiA and will take place during three
days from 23 - 25 of March at Hotel Mondial in Tirana. The first training
was organised on the issue of the administration of the juvenile justice,
while the second is totally based on CRC and its application into practice
from the teachers. The training will be attended from Directors of
Directorate of Education from 30 districts of Albania, from North, Central
and South. Two representatives will come from Ministry of Education and
Sciences. This is the first training that CRCA is
organising for educational authorities in Albania and for that reason a
team of two trainers from CRCA has prepared three modules starting from
the basic comprehension of CRC and then to child participation and
education. The training will be held in Albanian. Books, leaflets and
other documents will be distributed to the participants during the
training. All
of you being interested to know more about the training don't hesitate to
contact with the Children's Human Rights Centre of Albania - CRCA. CRCA STARTS GIVING ITS LEGAL ASSISTANCETO SAVE TWO CHILDREN Two months after the start of The Child
Protection Centre, established from the Children's Human Rights Centre of
Albania - CRCA in partnership with Save the Children in Albania, finally
for a very first time we have been offering our legal assistance free of
charge to two children. The news that made the headlines of Albanian
independent newspapers on Saturday and on going, deals with a case of
sexual abuse of two young brothers, aged 13 and 14, from two elderly men
aged 60. Both young children (boys) have been raped and against them have
been used violence during three days. One of the boys still have in his
body the scars of the knives. The police arrested both men and Tirana's
Court on Monday decided that they have to stay in detention centre for at
least one month. Both young brothers are now back to their family.
Interviewed by CRCA lawyer they declared that they have passed very
difficult moments. Both brothers said that after having a fight
with their father they decided to leave home. They slept for few days
outside and by chance they met with both elderly man, whom have been
political prisoners since were young in communist prisons. The old couple
promised the young brothers to help them to go to Greece and invited them
to their home. For three days both brothers were victims of sexual abuse
and torture until someone reported the case to the police. Tirana's Police asked for CRCA legal
assistance in a way that both young brothers would not feel scared or
unprotected. During all the interviewing process of children from the
police and prosecutors office the CRCA lawyers was present as a legal
adviser of children. Now the case is to be followed from the Prosecutors
office in Tirana and has been agreed that the legal advice will be offered
from CRCA lawyers also. CRCA in partnership with Save the Children in Albania started to offer its legal advise and protection free of charge to children below 18 since January 2000. Three lawyers are contracted in Tirana, Shkodra and Gjirokastra to offer their legal assistance free of charge to every child during legal proceedings. Overview
