A computer virus is a program written with a purpose to destroy another computer, or to access it’s files, usually without the computer user's knowledge that it is there. The virus attaches itself to a file or directory, where it creates a clone of itself, and then continues to spread through the system. These viruses can cause severe damage, which may lead to removing all data on the computer’s Hard Disk or Drive. Computer viruses, can only be transferred by sending an infected file to another user, over the Internet. Another way, is by saving an infected file onto a disk, and opening the file on another computer. This is why there is a need for Anti-virus software for our personal computers.
Computer viruses can spread from computer to computer from being effected from a Floppy Disk, exchange a program, use of illegal software, download of suspicious files and retrieval of an email or even a network server. These viruses will continue to destroy PC's until they are stopped, cleaned or until the computer is completely infected
By installing an Antivirus Program onto your PC, and completing a scan of your computer monthly will decrease the chances of being infected by the virus again. The most famous anti-virus softwares are Norton Anti-virus , Mcafee and Dr.Solomon
Please note that these softwares are to be updated regularly to beat the new viruses.
