Location

Grenada - Known as the "Isle of Spice" is one of the smallest independent countries in the western hemisphere. The country's territory consists of the island of Grenada, Carriacou, Petit Martinique. They are located in the Eastern Caribbean at the southern extremity of the Windward islands, only 100 miles north of Venezuela. To the north lie St. Vincent and the Grenadines; to the south Trinidad and Tobago. Grenada is famous for spice production and particularly for the production of nutmeg, with the nation producing a third of the world's supply. Nutmeg is found as a national emblem on the flag representing Grenada around the world, emphasizing its importance for the island. In Grenada nutmeg is King. Visitors to the island can't help but notice its scent on the balmy breeze and taste its rich flavor in a wide variety of Grenadian cuisine. The principal export crops are citrus fruits, cocoa, nutmeg,mace and bananas. Other crops include coconuts, cotton, cloves, and cinnamon. Tourism is also important to the economy. Grenada island has an area of 311 sq km (120 sq mi). The capital, largest town, and principal port (located on the southwestern coast) is Saint George's. There are five other parishes:

Climate

Grenadians enjoy excellent weather throughout the year. The average is in the high 80's. The dry season is from January to May and the 'rainy' season for the rest to the year. But there are short spells of rain in the dry period lasting no more than 5 minutes or so. Grey clouds over the mountains is the first sign of rain.
