WHICH CAME FIRST THE M OR THE N
?
Regardless of how you spelled it,
the archives of The New York Times and more seem to show one consistent
theme when the name Fred J., F. J. , or Frederick QUIMBY or QUINBY
is researched
a checkered past in personal
and business relationships.
That notwithstanding history has
to give Fred credit with coming up with most of the ideas Walter
T. Shirley implemented 40 & 50 years later. As for not putting
his name(s) on things out there, I did find that in Virginia,
where I know he resided at least when things blew up on Long Island,
there is a coastal town of Quinby and a nearby town of Tangier.
Both are located in the county of Accomack. Comack Rd. in Tangier,
Long Island was the main entrance to "Woodlands On The Bay"
I have yet to find an obituary on
him and have no idea when or where he was born , but I have found
this stuff. I'm fairly sure most of applies to one F. J. Quinby
or Quimby.
The F. J. Quinby Co. of Boston,
London & Paris was a publisher of very high end deluxe books
from circa 1900-1904. They had one set of 24 Volumes by a Charles
deKock that sold for over $11,000.00 in 1902.
From 1904 -1915 Suits in All Sizes
& Price Ranges starting at 150 bucks. These are but a sample.
John Copeland who sued Quimby & Sen. Hughes For return of
a $100,000.00 in bonds in 1913 is named with Quimby in the satisfied
judgement with a W. J. Shepherd for $43,157.00
