GREEN ACRE$$$

V E or V J Day

How it would of looked from Walter's office at 500 5th Ave.

After the War ended, Shirley started buying up everything in site. An acre here , 500 there, 1000, over there ...it added up.

Walter T. & Driving North On Revilo Ave. Backwards

In the WWI 77th Liberty Division roster there is a Pvt. Walter T. Oliver. I found him researching Shirley's WW! years. Oliver went into real estate also. Those who looked at the Quinby Plans from 1910 know that our Walter T. did not have to stay up late thinking up names for his roads. He did buy property however that Quinby never surveyed or owned. The purchase above for example.

I heard this story through Kenny Vitellaro who has lived in one place in unit 11, Mastic Acres - Shirley his entire soon to be 57 long years. The story came to Kenny from the late Bill Dietrich (Shirley's first property manager). Back in te 1970's Kenny was asking him about how Shirley came up with the names he did for the streets. Bill told him that Revilo Ave. (Which runs North from Victory Ave to the LI Expressway was named for the land Walt got off a guy named Oliver. Revilo is Oliver in reverse... Kenny has more Bill Dietrich stories that you will be seeing in the pages ahead. Not to mention the Vitellaro Story which as the longest living resident of the town needs to be told!....... I also recently have heard via E mail from John W Liberti, a young realtor who's realtor father and uncle I went to Floyd with. It turns out that John W's mother is the daughter of Bill Dietrich. I am hoping that John's offer to put me in touch with his Mom pans out. I'm sure she has a story or two she heard from her Dad.
