THE SERIES: Wagon Train September 18, 1957 - September 12, 1962 (NBC); September 19, 1962 - September 5, 1965 (ABC) Hugely popular, hour-long western series. Starred Ward Bond as the wagonmaster until his death in 1960. John McIntire was brought on as the new wagonmaster. Show relied heavily upon guest stars and each episode was titled after a guest star's character. Based on the 1950 film Wagonmaster which also starred Ward Bond. An attempt to extend the length of the program to 90 minutes in 1963 was unsuccesful.
