THE SERIES: The Hollywood Palace January 4, 1964 - February 7, 1970 (ABC) Hour-long variety show with a different host each week. The show was a mid-season replacement for The Jerry Lewis Show and was filmed at the El Capitan Theater in Los Angeles, which was renamed The Hollywood Palace. THE EPISODE: Original Air Date: October 1, 1966 Executive Producer: Nick Vanoff Producer: William O. Harbach Director: Grey Lockwood Writers: Joe Bigelow, Bernie Orenstein and Jay Burton Host: Elizabeth Montgomery Guests: Vic Damone, Paul Lynde, Jackie Mason, The 3 Robertis (acrobats), The Baja Marimba Band, The Sensational Parker (high pole act), Pat Anthony (lion tamer) Synopsis: This show follows the typical variety formula with music, comedy, acrobats, etc. as the features of the evening. The two comedy sketches featuring Lynde and Montgomery (one a reading from Shakespeare's MacBeth; the other a comic take on the British "deadpan") are by far the highlight of the show. Liz also sings an altered version of Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered with Vic Damone. |
