"What are they doing?" Brian asked standing behind Stephanie.
"Oh, egging my house, and it seems throwing rocks at it too. In about ten minutes, I’m gonna hafta go clean it up." Stephanie sighed softly. She couldn’t believe that Justin would not leave her alone.
"Aren’t you gonna call the cops or somethin?" Brian asked walking towards the front door. Stephanie shook her head no. Brian opened the door and walked out on to the front porch. Justin looked up to see Brian standing in front of him. "What do you think you’re doing?" Brian asked firmly. Justin just stood still. By now all his friends had taken off on him.
"Well I was just-"
"Gonna help us clean this up, or I’m gonna call the police." Brian threatened cutting Justin off. Justin just nodded and walked slowly in the house. Stephanie stood before Justin with soapy water, paper towels and Windex. Brian, Justin and Stephanie walked outside to start cleaning off the mess Justin and his friends had made. They were cleaning in silence until Stephanie started to speak.
"Why do you do this to me Justin? What makes me so much different then you?" she asked stopping everything she was doing.
"I dunno." Justin shurgged and went back to scrubbing the window.
"No, I want to know why. Every since I started school you picked on me. Why?" Stephanie asked angrily. Brian looked up from where he was quietly humming to himelf. He liked Jerry moments. Especially when it invloved people he knew.
"You wanna know why! Do you?" Justin yelled. Stephanie nodded yes, "It’s because your parents are black and you’re white!" Brian started to realize that what was going on, was more serious then he thought. "Let them work it out on their own." Brian thought.
"Can I change that? So I was adopted by black parents! Why should that make me different?" Stephanie asked. Again Justin had her in tears. She remembed finding out she was adopted. She was five and it hurt, walking into kindergarten and seeing everyone’s parents being white. She loved her parents, but if that was the real reason why everyone tormented her, then she would have to do something about it.
"Geez, Pippie! You’re not as smart as I thought." Jutin said laughing his evil laugh, that tormented Stephanie day in and day out.
"Don’t call me Pippie!" Stephanie yelled back.
"Pip, you live in an all white, rich neighbourhood, you’re adopted, you’re smart, you’re fun to tease ‘cause you don’t do anything back. The list could go on forver." Justin said with no emotion. He chose Stephanie to pick on and there was no turning back.
"Go home Justin!" Stephanie yelled and stormed back into the house.
