Update!
The National Center for Lesbian Rights and Andrea Zimbardi settled the discrimination suit with the University of Florida and its Athletic Department which includes changes in policy at UF and training aimed to protect LGBT Athletes. Please see the NCLR website for more information.
Background
In the spring/summer of 2003, a news story surfaced in local media and national queer media of an impending lawsuit against UF by a woman who got kicked off their softball team for being a lesbian. Follow this link from OutSports.com for more info. The Gainesville Lesbian Avengers started an email and flyer campaign to expose and challenge UF's homophobia.

Bench Homophobia! Lesbians Score!
Three women have been kicked off the UF softball team because they are lesbians. UF Softball coaches Karen Johns & Heather Compton-Butler created an intensely uncomfortable environment for lesbians and ANYONE concerned with homophobia. Johns has kicked multiple women off the team because of their identification as lesbians. UF Athletic Director Jeremy N. Foley supports their homophobia and discrimination!
Let UF know what you think of their homophobia! Write or Call:
