Southern League Cup

In 1945-46, the Scottish League was still in abeyance, so its member clubs continued with the Southern League. With the addition of North Eastern League, two divisions were set up, but this excluded five pre-War League clubs. They addressed this by creating a new league centred in the eastern counties. Founded in Perth on 20 July 1945, the league’s working title was the Central League before the Eastern League nane was settled on. Despite having an odd number of sides, an application from Bo’ness was refused. They went on and merged with the local Junior club Cadora to form Bo’ness United. Another new club was Stirling Albion, who were seen as a continuation of the town’s pre-War League side King’s Park. The SFA were asked to perform the secretarial duties and the league modelled itself on the North Eastern League by playing over two series. It also organized two Cup competitions.

The second series saw the addition of St Johnstone ‘A’, which brought the membership up to eight clubs. However Stirling Albion were expelled after playing two games when they decided to participate in the Southern League Cup against the wishes of the other Eastern League clubs.
