With
the abolition of C Division, and the subsequent formation of the Scottish
(Reserve) League, the lower league clubs had no competition for their reserve
sides to play in. A Scottish Alliance was played during 1956-57 but it wasn’t
popular and disbanded. However the Spring of 1959 saw the formation of the
Combined Reserve League for Second Division reserve sides, as well as the
youth (B) sides of Celtic, and later Rangers and Heart of Although the league disbanded in 1972, the Scottish
League used the name for its competitions for minor reserve sides. Many thanks to Tom McGouran and Robert Bruce for
