Morality Journal 4 | ||||||||||||
1. The main idea of this section was the morality through the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Some of the teachings the catechism said about the morality of humans was that our morality is judged by the object, which is the act, the intention, which is the intention of the act, and the cirumstances, which are the reasons that the act was committed. 2. A) One thing I would like to remember is the LISTEN method, which is a method to take in decision making, choosing between the moral and wrong choice. The first step is to look for the facts, which is find all the information pertaining to this decision. The second step is to imagine the possibilities, which is think of the consequences of your actions. The third step is to seek insight from others, which is asking others what they think you should do, getting their opinion. The fourth step is to turn inward, which is to look inside yourself and reflect on the reason you choose the way you do. The fifth step is to expect God's help, which is knowing that God is there to guide through your decision. The sixth step is to name your decision, which is to declare what you have chosen and to stick with that choice. The reason I would like to remember this is because even though it takes longer to do than just making a rash decision, it ensures the moral choice. B) Another thing I would like to remember are the ways you can be involved in a sin even through not directly participating. The first way is by participating voluntarily in the act you are responsible. Another way is by ordering, praising or affirming you are responsible. This means if you tell some to do it, you congratulate them for it, or if you ok the action you have been part of the sin. Another way is by not hindering/stopping a wrong doing I am responsible for the sin. This means if I see someone getting beat up and I stand by and watch rather than interferring, I have participated in that sin. The last way is by protecting the evil doers. This means defending anyone who did a wrong doing makes you morally responsible even if it is a friend. C) I would also like to remember the Ten Building Blocks of social teaching: The Principle of Human Dignity, which is that all humans have dignity despite differences because they were made by God. The Principle of Respect for Human Life, which is that all human have the right to life from moment they were conceived to old age. The Principle of Association, which is that we should be organized as a society. The Principle of Participation, which is that all human have a duty and a right to participate in their society. The Principle of the Poor and Vulnerable, which means that we have a duty to take care of those lower than us. The Principle of Solidarity, which is we are our brother's and sister's keeper. The Principle of Stewardship, which means we have a duty to protect what God created for us. The Principle of Subsidiarity is that the government has a responsibility to protect the people but not impose on their freedoms. The Principle of Human Equality, which means that all humans are equal. The Principle of the Common Good, which mean that our decisions should not be for the benefit of us but rather everyone. I would like to remember these I think these our key in having a fair society 3. |

4. Do I have a well formed conscience? If so why do I still make choices that are immoral? I think the answer to this is that my conscience is well formed but sometimes I just decide not to follow it, when there is an easy way out. 5. One thing I can do to make myself a more moral person is before I make a decison use the one of the three methods instead of making a quick decision based on what I want to rather than what I should do. The methods may take longer than the quick decision but the methods help you choose the moral choice. |
