Jesus Needs Some Good Hands

Do Your Hands Serve Him?

During WWII in a small French village there was a small Catholic church that was located in the center of the village square. Outside the church stood a statue of Jesus. This village had been heavily bombed by the Nazis and the concussion of the bombs had blown the outstretched hands off this statue of Jesus. As the American troops liberated this small village, a small group of Christian American soldiers noticed the damaged statue, and on their hands and knees they began to find fragments of the statue and piece the hands back together with the help of some chewing gum one soldier had in his pack. They began to get somewhat excited as they began to see the hands on the statue slowly take shape.
They were about half completed when a colonel drove up. He said, "Soldiers, what on earth are you doing?" One brave soldier stood up and saluted and said, "Sir, we're trying to piece together the hands of this statue of Jesus that have been blown off." With that the colonel replied, "Don't do that!" At that command all the soldiers stopped their work with a look of confusion on their faces as they stared at this brave soldier for direction. The soldier was stern in his conviction and replied, "With all due respect, sir. You see, we are all Christians and it bothers us to see our Lord with His hands blown off!" With that the colonel replied, "You don't get it...I'm a Christian too...so leave it alone!" The confused soldiers began to stand to their feet. The brave, young soldier said, "If you're a Christian, sir, doesn't it bother you?" With that the colonel smiled, climbed down out of his jeep and put his arm around the young soldier. The colonel wisely said, "Don't you see, son, that's the way it ought to be...Jesus has no hands but our hands in this world...we are His hands...that's the way it ought to be!"

THE TRUTH FOUND IN THIS STORY IS:

Jesus needs us to do his work on here on earth. Jesus Christ is here in spirit, but he calls on us to be here for the people in a physical way. He has no hands, but our own hands. Prayer is powerful but sometimes we need more than just prayer. We have to get out and get our hands dirty. Do you get your hands dirty for the Lord? He needs you to reach out and touch those in your community who need a hand.
