Bulldog Records BGCD 0016

There are two main things to say about this CD: (1) it is the Beatles' final paying customer concert; and (2) man, is this a lousy recording! You'd think that a better recording of this historic concert would be out there somewhere (and maybe it is), but we may have to be happy (or at least satisfied) with what we've got. I wish I could say it was a stellar performance recorded in great sound, but I can't. On the other hand, it is their last, barring the 30 Jan 1969 rooftop concert.

Liner Notes

The End Of An Era
With the notes of Long tall sally unfortunately not recorded, a cycle of the legendary history of rock was over.

The fab four held in S. Francisco (which, in a very short time, would have become the centre of a new way to make and feel music) their very last concert.

Twenty-five-thousands people were present at the performance, perhaps without understanding its real meaning to the sixties music. No more desperate and shouting fans, no more teenagers praising at the airports, no more Beatlesmania. From that moment, only studio sessions...

The few months later masterpiece would have requested a long period of meditation and hard work: the Candlestick Park concert meant a farewell to howling crowds and the welcome to Seargent Pepper. The recording of the concert was made by a journalist, Tony Barrow, at Mc Cartney's explicit request. The tape came to our times and reappeared at a London auction.

(the same notes, I assume, are then printed in Italian, but, hopefully, without the typos and odd syntax you see in the English version)
