Split Rock Lighthouse State Park
Lake Superior
Two Harbors, Minnesota
Since 1910 the Lighthouse has been both a beacon and landmark. It became a state park in 1971.
The lighthouse is part of a sill, an intrusion of volcanic rocks.

The sill is part of the earth's Precambrian history and is related

to the rocks exposed throughout the area.

The Duluth Complex is made up of many intrusive events,

hot magma upwelling in cracks and weak areas of existing volcanic

bedrock. The result is a very hard rock that has withstood the

ravages of storms and glaciers to give us the beauty of

Split Rock Lighthouse State Park.

Across the years I will walk you-
in deep, green forests; on shores of sand:
and when our time on earth is through
in heaven, too, you will have my hand.
