Norris was the first dam built by TVA, just after the organization was formed in 1933. This is a larger lake that extends 72 miles up the Clinch River and 56 miles up the Powell River. It has 800 miles of shoreline with a maximum width of 1.2 miles and a surface area of 34,200 acres. Norris Lake can be accessed from numerous Eastern Tennessee citys. Such as Lake City, Caryville, La Follette, Powell Valley, Tazewell, and Maynardville. There are 2 state parks located on the lake -- Big Ridge State Park and Norris Dam State Park. Also there are 2 Wildlife Management Area -- Chuck Swan and Cove Creek Penninsula. Full-pool is around 1020 with an average draw down of 32 feet. Draw down starts around the first of August.
