Cherokee Lake is a TVA impoundment formed in 1943. The lake has a surface area of 30,200 acres. Access to Cherokee can be gained from Morristown, Bean Station, and Jefferson City just to name a few of the towns. The heart of the lake is around Morristown, TN. There is one state park located on the lake and that is Panther Creek State Park. Also Grangier county has a county park on the lake. This is an excellent Bass fishery - The majority of fishermen on this lake pursure Bass. Crappie though are begining to make a comeback in the numbers available. Full-pool on this lake is 1073 with an average draw down of 28 feet. Draw down starts around the first of August.
