Cumberland & Pennsylvania Bridge-Narrows, Cumberland
January 16, 1998

This bridge across Will's Creek had only a couple of days left before it was torn down on January 19, 1998. Built shortly after the B&O arrived in the 1840's, this bridge lasted 150 years. The bridge served the Eckhart Branch of the C&P and was reportedly last used in 1980. The reason for its demise was the accusation that its three arch design was catching trees and other debris in floods, creating a dam (this bridge was built well!). Floods in this area in recent years wreaked havoc with car dealerships and other businesses immediately upstream
