Bridge Route

On MD 51 at C&O Canal Paw Paw Tunnel area.


Deep in one of the Paw Paw bends of the Potomac, between Hansrote and Jerome.

I can remember reading about the abandonment of the Cumberland Extention like it was yesterday. Walking the right of way, one realizes how time passes as good sized trees now grow in the middle of what was the tracks. Here a sycamore pokes through the high bridge near Magnolia


Same bridge from the long abandoned B&O low line.


Trip ended at Cherry Run, WV. The Cumberland Extention started on the other side of the Potomac. The strategic 1880s link with the B&O marks where the WM rails survived into the 21st Century.
