The Balkans
An excellent bouldering area (or rather series of areas - there are three), located in the bushland of Ted Horwood reserve in Baulkham Hills. While the rock is still a little sandy in places, it is generally excellent, with a superb variety of problems over a great range of grades (see
for some photos). The crags are located on both sides of Darling Mills creek (which flows North / South), so they face both East and West, making them good in both winter and summer.
There was a detailed guide published for the three areas late in 1999, but it has not been available for some time. The newly published Sun, Surf and Sandstone online guide book also covers the crag, although without describing individual problems. The crag is described here.
