  ~   Yorkshire Co., England to New Brunswick, Canada   ~ 

 

  1. John Mitton - sailed April of 1774 from Scarborough, England on a ship of uncertain name and captain.  He settled on the Little River, a few miles above its mouth and received a grant to the land in 1809.   He m. Cathy Trites. He also m. Eliza Blakely, widow of ____ Lancaster, and adopted her son Ralph.  The 1783 census shows John as living with a wife and one child.  The wife would be Eliza and the child would be her son Ralph who was born about 1774.  In his will, John leaves the furniture to his wife, Eliza, and names his sole executor as "his step-son, Ralph Johnson, known as Ralph Johnson Mitton".

  2. Robert Mitton - 1817 - Came by way of PEI and settled on the Little River, about three miles below Parkindale, NB.  He was a nephew of John(1).

  3. William Mitton - about 1817 - older brother of Robert(2) - settled first at Cape Tormentine and later in Fairfield, near Dorchester, in Westmorland Co.  He m. Hannah Carr, SEP 11 1803 in Kettlewell, Yorkshire Co., England.

  4. Richard Mitton - about 1817 - younger brother of Robert(2) and William(3)- settled in Dorchester, Westmorland Co.  He m. Sarah Fallow, SEP 13 1812, in Cherry Burton, Yorkshire Co., England.

  5. Ann (Mitton) Cook - about 1817 - sister of   Robert(2), William(3), and Richard(4) - She m. George Cook, OCT 21 1800, in Kirkburn, Yorkshire Co., England.  They settled in Fairfield, Westmorland Co.

  1. Kent County - early 1800's - settled in the towns of Horton, Howard, and Ridgetown.  By the mid 1800's descendants had spead into the state of Michigan.

  1. Michigan - mid 1800's - descendants of the Ontario Mitton line had begun settling in MI.

  2. New Hampshire - before 1910 - my grandfather, George Kenneth Mitton moved his family from Nova Scotia to Lisbon, NH.

  3. Minnesota - mid 1800's - George Henry Mitton, ran away from home at age 14 and settled in Minnesota near the logging town of Foley. He apparently changed his surname to Milton when he came to MN. Listed in 1870 Census of Benton County, Minnesota as age 25.

  4. Washington - late 1800's - Otto Roy Mitton, son of John Merritt Mitton, moved to Port Townsend, WA.

  1. George Wade Mitton on June 19,1895, married Anne Marie Richardson at Cambridge, MA. Marriage records (State Archives, Dorchester Vol. # 452, Page #117) list George as age 26; born in Boston, MA; occupation: Buyer; father: Edward J. Mitton; mother: Sarah A. J. Wade.  Annie is listed as age 23; occupation: At Home, born: Cambridge, MA; father: Charles E. Richardson; mother: Eva C. Hovey.  According to "The Brewster Genealogy 1566-1907", (by Emma C. Brewster Jones, pub.1908), Anne was the daughter of Edward and Mercy (Owen) Richardson of Portland, ME and Cambridge, MA.
